Quite simply this is a great place to stay. The great thing about Airbnb is the variety of accommodation and the promise of something unique. Well this one comes in spades. Located at the end of a private road the Manor is on the banks of the river Wye. The original house was divided into four; the stables, the kitchen and staff quarters, and the main house divided into two. The Manor House is the left hand side of the original main House and looks over the river and fields. The Apartment is on the first floor and has two large bedrooms kitchen, shower and a lovely large lounge room with large windows facing east and north. There are also some binoculars to look out over the fields and river, and for our stay the spectacle of a Spitfire performing over the SAS base in the distance.
The apartment is furnished in the way that only an old house that has been around for long time is - it is replete with family artworks and interesting furniture that has been in the family for some time. Indeed in between the wingback chairs and Chinese lacquer cabinets the high set four poster bed in the main bedroom deserves a mention not only due to it being a nice sleep but for a 5 year old granddaughter it was a bed for a Princess.
As said, the apartment is set in the grounds of the Manor on the banks of the Wye and has direct access to the river. Given the hot weather we wanted to go a swim and Nick and Joanne arranged for the bank to be strimmed and lent us their inflatable boat. We very much enjoyed messing around in and on the river joined only by some cows down the river a bit, some people fishing, some swans, ducks and a few canoes going towards Hereford.
Below the apartment is main house where Nick and Joanne live. Nick and Joanne were excellent hosts making sure we had everything we needed and great company when spending some time in the garden enjoying the early evening with a glass of wine.
Our stay was truly memorable and will certainly look forward to going back.
