Enjoy this lovely Japanese-influenced, timber-clad suite overlooking our lush garden and beyond, views to the Gold Coast. Relax in this hinterland hideaway completely surrounded by nature and yet be only 7 minutes from town. The suite has a bedroom with a breakfast bar, an en suite, and access to a kitchen. An adjacent authentic Japanese tea room can be used for meditation or tea drinking.

The property is surrounded by nature - very quiet, secluded and full of birdsong. Your sleeping-cum-living space looks out onto rambling gardens with views down the valley to the skyline of the Gold Coast. At night enjoy a drink as the sun sets and the lights of the Gold Coast sparkle in the distance. The suite has a small modern en suite with shower and hand basin. The toilet (which is shared by tea ceremony students on tea practice days) is immediately outside your suite, semi-outdoors and accessed undercover. The suite is suitable for a couple or a couple with child.
Bedroom-cum-living space
This room contains:
+ 1 king-size bed
+ room for additional bed (comfortable fold-out) if required
+ clothes hanging rack
+ shelves
+ breakfast bar with three chairs
+ coffee table with three cushions
+ heater in winter, free-standing cooler in summer (but no aircon)

The kitchenette is shared by tea ceremony students on practice days (Monday & Wednesday mornings and Saturday until 5pm) but available for tea & coffee making and simple meals preparation at any time. It has:
+ a bar fridge
+ microwave
+ basic utensils & crockery
+ kettle
+ hotplate
+ milk, butter, bread, jam, some fruit for breakfast enough for the first day of stay

There is no air conditioning but the room is naturally cool with a fresh breeze coming up from the valley.
Instead of a TV have fun with some old-fashioned amusements left for your enjoyment.

There is no wifi.

Tea Ceremony
The upside of sharing the kitchen is that you are welcome to sit in on a tea ceremony class. Please enquire beforehand. If you would like to try a bowl of matcha (tea ceremony tea) or even experience a private tea ceremony please enquire about availability. ($6 per bowl of matcha with sweet; $12pp for tea ceremony experience (30 minutes)

+ all gardens and walking tracks
+ tea ceremony room for tea or meditation. The tea ceremony space can be entered in stockinged feet - because of the tatami mats - or viewed from the outside.
+ shared kitchenette anytime during your stay

A note to guests bringing young children:
Our property has several ponds and paths with jagged rocks, plus other hazards, so it could be dangerous for young children - please ensure children are supervised at all times when walking on the property.

Unfortunately this space is not suitable for pets because of the tatami matting in the adjacent tea ceremony room.

A note about insects and geckoes:
As we are in a bush environment there will occasionally be visits from insects such as moths and dragonflies and also geckoes. All of these creatures are harmless. It is almost impossible to stop geckoes living around the houses in tropical and semitropical parts of the world such as this so all we can do is try to live in harmony with them :)

There is plenty of parking on the grassy area to the right as you enter the gate.

Clothes washing:
If you are here for an extended stay, please enquire about using the washing machine the main house.

While being a lovely space - very similar to an inn in the Japanese countryside - this suite may not be for everyone. If you are here on a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday, please be prepared to share the kitchenette and also the toilet with tea ceremony students - from as early as 8:00 am. On these days there would be some degree of noise and activity in the share kitchen while teachers/students prepare for class. Your own bedroom/living space and en suite will remain private. Guests are advised to latch the kitchen door the night before to ensure total privacy.
Your room is immediately adjacent to the verandah&living space of another Airbnb room (separated by a wall) so you may hear activity in that room as well. But we ask for no loud noise after 9pm so it should not disturb you.
The great thing about this property is that we are only 20 minutes by car from two great beaches (Burleigh & Broadbeach) and just 10 minutes to Robina Town Centre - a huge shopping centre with everything including cinema and bowling and world-class eateries (at The Kitchens). The location is actually excellent, being about equal distance from the beach and from the national park at Springbrook, so a great base for enjoying the best of the Gold Coast.
Please be aware that we do own a dog, a mini poodle (and our next door neighbour's dog may also come plodding across to visit from time to time). If you are not keen on dogs and don't want our poodle to greet you on arrival please let me know in advance so we can try to keep him indoors at your arrival time. Sorry I can't control the next door neighbour's dog.

This is a very quiet, beautiful spot, a bit out of the way, high up in the hills. The view was fantastic - hills, and the city and sea in the far distance. It was great to look out of the window at the lights of the city far away and hear the frogs at night. The building is surrounded by beautiful Japanese gardens.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! A stunningly beautiful place! Beautiful crockery too! A special place to relax and regenerate. No TV :) !! Even though we couldn't open the windows at night, it had been raining so some mosquitos after sunset, surprisingly air was still very fresh during the night and all three of us slept soundly. This place is so natural it breaths so well windows open or not :) A special place to stay and experience. Thank you so much Margret!

I really felt we were in the mountains of Japan. She has created something special! The views were stunning without the loud noise. Made us feel very comfortable! We would definitely come back to visit in the future!

I lived in Japan for 23 years working as a journalist, writer, editor. Travelling to old country towns and Japanese Tea Ceremony were a big part of my life. Tea Ceremony still is. I have my own chashitsu at home and teach there three days a week in addition to teaching Japanese translation at university part time. I have a teenage daughter and we live with my dad (88) and two dogs in a beautiful part of the world.
