In my early days of hosting before I worked out how to sync my bookings I had a few double bookings where I had to find guests comparable accommodation on the island or pay the difference. Anything comparable to my place was anoth (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) . It is expensive here as it's a remote location where everything has to be shipped in. Insurance for cyclone prone short-term accommodation is also expensive ($330 a month) as are council rates ($272 a month), as is electricity (35c a kilowatt hour). I clean the unit myself to keep down costs - wipe down all surfaces, clean the shower & toilet, vacuum, mop put in fresh flowers. The beautiful garden also takes a lot of work as does washing sheets, towels & tea towels + keeping maintenance going & managing the stock of muesli, tea sugar, fruit, coffee etc. I try to pay myself $20 an hour but this doesn't often happen. The kitchen cupboards are restored antiques of local hoop pine with bloodwood benchtops. The dining table is a restored antique of Australian red mahogany. The mattresses are top quality. One queen mattress ensemble is a Sealy Posturepedic and the sleigh bed has a King Koil Chiroslat mattress. The lights are handmade patterned copper and glass that cast beautiful shadows at night. The sheets are Egyptian cotton or organic 100% bamboo. The towels are high quality - lovely thick & fluffy. At about 8.30am I bring in fresh fruit salad & espresso coffee. I sit down with guests & show them on the map where they can see things on the island. I have seen the alternatives to my place so for the life of me I can't see what "for what it was" could mean. I PUHLEEZE find me a better deal on the island.
