The Nordic Boutique Barn was an old barn that was lovingly restored and now stands as a small, charming boutique hotel in the beautiful Norwegian village of Skjelstad at Vestfjord.

Surrounded by secluded beaches, mossy forests and snow-capped mountains, our cosy barn is truly a hidden gem--an off-the-beaten-track secret getaway from the touristic Lofoten Islands. Chances are, you'll see the northern lights and the midnight sun from here, minus the throngs of tourists.

About the Nordic Boutique Barn:

Once upon a time, a man said, "Can someone give this crazy lady some matches, so she can burn down the barn?"

That was 20 years ago when I left the greedy city to come back home to settle down in peace with my three beautiful daughters. I bought this place--the main house and the barn--to give it some love.

The barn was falling apart and the roof was leaking but the old structure stood strong; it is made of Norwegian timber on a solid foundation of rock from Mother Earth.

I was not given matches; I fell in låve (love)! Slowly, with the help of my friends and family, I started to save the building and named the restored building the Nordic Boutique Barn.

The Hems is a spacious, open style attic in the restored barn with a comfortable king size bed and a child-size bed, and two single beds in a separate area--a funky space for a family or friends with a sense of humour and adventure.

The attic is accessible by a staircase from the main floor of the barn. Due to the openness of the attic, expect to hear sounds coming from the communal area below.

Travelling with more friends or family? There are plenty of rooms available at the Nordic Boutique Barn, each with its own unique character.
The Høystålet and The Isaac Room
Suitable for: a family or 5 friends
The Mickey Mouse Room
The Bunga Bunga one bed in each room.
Two common areas and a well equipped kitchen.

Just let us know and we'll take care of the rest.

Sharing is caring:

Part of the charm of the Nordic Boutique Barn is the experience of sharing communal spaces as well as the opportunity to exchange stories with travellers from all over the world.

Lillian's eclectic selection of vintage Norwegian handicrafts and memorabilia permeates every nook and cranny of the barn. The communal lounge and dining area are spacious, warm and comfortable with sofas, chairs and tables to relax by the fireplace.

The barn features hot water, electric heating as well as a wood burner (firewood included), a flat-screen TV with over 50 channels to choose from and a fast complimentary Internet connection.

There is a fully equipped, modern community kitchen with a big refrigerator, a dishwasher, an oven and a coffee machine.

There are two bathrooms to share; one of them has a shower, a toilet and a washing machine, whilst the other has a toilet and a sink.

There is also an outdoor terrace with a breathtaking view of the mountains and a barbeque area with a view of the Vestfjord.

For kids and the young at heart, there is a Gingerbread House, a cool Pirate Ship and a swing to play with.

Embrace the Nordic way of life and enjoy our "Badstu" or a private spa with a sauna and a jacuzzi at a special price. There is also the exotic Morocco Room that you can rent for special occasions in combination with the Badstu. Experience a real Moroccan atmosphere in Arctic Norway!

You can also rent our Treehouse in the nearby forest for a night or two, perfect for adventure seekers and nature lovers.

We recommend renting a hammock from us and finding your own spot in the forest or up on the mountain to soak up the Norwegian sun and breathe the fresh Arctic air.

Andra saker att notera
We have some house rules:
- Please do not smoke in the barn.
- Pets are not allowed in the barn.
- Extra guests are welcome at an additional fee.

Other than that, have a good time!

The Nordic Boutique Barn is situated in the small village of Skjelstad, which stretches along a five-kilometre long road next to the Vestfjord, on a peninsula surrounded by forests and the ocean.

The supermarket and the local pub are located 5 km away in Helnessund. The next village is Leinesfjord, which is 25 km away. There you can find a cafe, a library, a doctor, a dentist, more shopping and an ATM.

The mountains are close, an easy hike through the forest and along the beautiful Brennvika Beach. The hiking trails start right at your doorstep and lead through the pine forests, across white sand beaches, passing by numerous waterfalls and up the rocky mountains.

Between late May and mid-July, you can experience the midnight sun, whilst the northern lights can be viewed from September to mid-April.

In Norway, there is something called "the right to roam", which is a traditional right from ancient times and a part of the Outdoor Recreation Act. It means that anyone can walk nearly anywhere they want in the great outdoors, as long as you are considerate and respectful of nature, animals and local inhabitants and leave the landscape as you would want to find it. Breathe the fresh Arctic air and enjoy our little paradise!

Dearest guest, 20 years ago, I left the city to come back home. To settle down in peace with my three daughters. I bought this place--the main house and the barn--to give it some love. Slowly, with help from my friends and family, I started to save the building. I worked very hard to realise my dream, but I never gave up. Today I can welcome you to this special place and let you experience the beautiful nature and our warm community! I also worked as the director of the Viking play: Steigen Sagaspill. I am very interested in sagas and legends around this area, my homeland. But I also travelled a lot and appreciate other cultures and people. Arts and crafts are something I like doing as well. I collect the old North Norwegian words and turn them into embroideries, which I sell. I knit a lot, mostly woollen hats and socks. And I like to make bread and traditional local food. As an Event Manager, I organise weddings, confirmations, family gatherings, Christmas dinners and many others. I also participate in the Workaway project, which allows me to host volunteers from all over the world in exchange for food and accommodation. It's great fun and you can learn a lot about other cultures and yourself. I would really like to host you in my freshly converted barn and welcome you from the bottom of my heart <3 Låve Lillian ( "låve" is Norwegian for barn) it's so close to "love" that it becomes a låvely (lovely) place :-)
