1. Be aware that my Airbnb listing is and has always been for a private bedroom. Meaning, you do have your privacy in your private room in my home. I am also not just a random person in an apartment, I am your host who calls this apartment as home. And as per the city of Santa Monica’s home sharing law, I have to live at my home. So please note that my listing is NOT for an entire house, but only a private room. I urge you to read the Airbnb description carefully before booking! So please, if you what you had in mind was staying at a home with your buddies and absent of the home’s residents, make it clear what you intend to do so we can give you some space or you should find a listing for an entire house.
2. You mentioned that some random person told you about Airbnb illegal in Santa Monica as one of your refund request reasons. First of all, no matter how to report my Airbnb, it is completely legal business in Santa Monica. We provide our business license and registration number on the Airbnb website and we have all the legal documents on the city website that you can check on the official website of city of Santa Monica to check our home sharing business license status by putting our business license. I know according to LA Time there are over 500 listings on Airbnb in Santa Monica is illegal. I’m very proud that my Airbnb has never been illegal since we started it in April 2017.
3. I texted you guys in the morning to make sure when is the best time to check in. You guys didn’t reply or try to coordinate with me at all prior to your arrival. Instead calling me or asking for assistance upon your arrival, you tried to access my home unannounced, which totally surprised me. And I never have any single guest act like you before. However, I still tried my best to host you guys. And you guys post 3 people stay at my home, when the check in you guys brought the 4th random person, who you did not inform me of prior, which made me feel uncomfortable as well.
4. Finally, you guys checked out suddenly with no prior warning at 1:30am. I feel sad that you guys were unable to fully enjoy my home for the whole night. Checking out is totally fine and at your discretion. However, asking us for your money back after checking out is improper. After consulting with Airbnb customer support, we decided to reject your refund request. I am always open to make my guests’ stay as warm and enjoyable as possible. However, you never aired any of your concerns to me, until only after you tried asking for your money back after checking out. Your issues and misunderstandings with what you had in mind do not constitute a refund. I feel that if you had issues that you wanted addressed, I would be more than happy to clarify them with you if you coordinated properly.
Airbnb is about sharing our living space with others and making new friends. According to my 5 Stars reviews, all my guests are happy with their stay and respected me and my house rules. I do hope that you can learn from this experience and be a better guest for future hosts.
