**** COVID-19 UPDATE: Our guesthouse is still available to any visitors without travel restrictions, as well as to locals who need to isolate themselves because of work duties associated with COVID-19.

We are following Airbnb's new cleaning guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, based on recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We're taking extra care to disinfect frequently touched surfaces between reservations.

We offer self check-in. The guesthouse is a separate building at the end of our driveway; you don't need to come into contact with us at any time.

If you're considering visiting from outside the area, please be aware that Oregon is currently operating under a "Stay Home, Save Lives" order issued by the Governor. Face coverings are required in all indoor public spaces and outdoors where six-feet social distancing rules cannot be adhered to. Some attractions/restaurants/etc are open but some are still closed.

Also, due to social distancing requirements, only registered guests are allowed in the guesthouse.

Built in 2018, our guesthouse offers comfortable living in a small space, with special attention to craftsmanship, aesthetics and environmental responsibility. Inside and out, you'll find sustainable elements such as the exterior juniper siding, sourced from small mills in Eastern Oregon's rural communities, to a two-story wall clad with Douglas fir lumber salvaged from our old garage.

Here's a rundown of what you'll find in each part of the house:

LIVING ROOM
French doors lead into a light-filled living space. Transom windows and skylights built into a vaulted ceiling bathe the space in light. A handpainted floral mural adds fun and color to the space. Relax on a comfy sofa or the chair in the reading alcove. In warmer months, open the french doors and the sunken front patio is an extension of the living room.

KITCHEN
A full-size GE gas range and Whirlpool microwave make it easy to cook from scratch or reheat your restaurant leftovers. Stocked with essentials: coffee, tea, oatmeal, sweeteners, olive oil, along with a selection of condiments (mayo, ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, etc) and spices (dried basil, cumin, coriander, etc). High-quality knives, plenty of pots, pans and cooking utensils, and a dishwasher to save clean-up time.

We provide coffee (and tea) and several different devices (pour over, stovetop espresso, etc) to make it. Or walk to one of five coffee shops within a 10-minute walk; the nearest (The Stacks) is just three blocks away.

BATHROOM
Hidden in the reclaimed wood-clad wall is a door to a wallpapered bathroom with earth-tone finishes and and a bright, garden-like feel. There's a fully tiled shower, a linen cabinet with plenty of towels, and a long shelf behind the sink to accommodate all your toiletries.

BEDROOM
Palm fronds and flowers are the backdrop to an upstairs sleeping alcove with a queen-sized bed, a 10-inch memory-foam mattress and comfy bamboo-lined pillows. There's a closet with a washer/dryer and another for your belongings.

OUTDOOR SPACE
During warmer months, enjoy your morning coffee on a private sunken garden patio, lined by plants including a Robust Green Juniper, a Japanese red maple and golden bamboo.

Gästers tillgång
You'll have access to the entire guesthouse and front patio.

Andra saker att notera
There's no TV, but there is a wireless speaker and Wi-Fi sufficient to stream to your devices.

In the sleeping alcove upstairs, head clearance around the queen bed can be tight for tall guests.

Portland, Oregon, USA

The guesthouse is set back from a quiet street in a neighborhood full of amenities: within a 10-minute walk you'll find a New Seasons Market (Portland's best local grocery chain), multiple coffee shops (the closest just three blocks away), and a plethora of restaurants and watering holes including Mio Sushi, Milk Glass Market (brunch), Backyard Social (upscale bar), The Old Gold (pub grub), E'Njoni Cafe (Eritrean), La Bonita (Mexican), Spitz (Mediterranean Street Food), Garagiste PDX (wine bar), Atomic Pizza, Lucky Lab (beer hall) and more.

We're also a half-block from a designated bicycle boulevard, and four blocks from a light-rail stop that will take you downtown in 15 minutes. The Mississippi Avenue and Alberta Arts business districts are a short drive or bike ride away.

The neighborhood's small commercial nodes also feature a healthy mix of neighborhood-serving commercial (bike shop, yoga studio, hair salon, mini-mart, etc). The Peninsula Park Rose Garden is well worth a visit between May and October; it's a bit of a hidden gem, even to locals.

We moved to Portland in 2000 from the other coast after realizing this was the place we wanted to call home. We love the walkable neighborhoods, support of small businesses, the food and arts scenes, the biking and transit options, and the connection to the outdoors. Dan runs his own video production company and edits documentary films. Molly works at a cooperative of wholesale flower growers based in Seattle. We enjoy meeting new people through Airbnb, both as guests and as hosts. We love to visit National Parks around the west, and pretty much anywhere in India or Southeast Asia — although our 10-year-old Belgian Malinois, Leyna, usually keeps us close to home.

Under din vistelse
We live in the main house, which shares a common walkway to the back of the property but is otherwise separate. Dan works mostly from home, as does Molly on certain days. Our 11-year-old Belgian Malinois, Leyna, enjoys going out into the fenced-off backyard to chase squirrels, balls and frisbees and do her business.

We enjoy chatting with guests, and are happy to share information or answer questions about our city or shoot the breeze over a beverage. How much interaction you have with us is completely up to you.
