The rooms in the Mansion are maintained in the same style as in the 1900s. The wash rooms are clean and dry and stocked with the required toiletries. Every room in the main block has a balcony, which opens out into life around the Mansion.
Room service is not entertained in abundant caution to prevent insects. The rooms in the ambience of the village are quiet and are ideal for good nights sleep. All efforts are made to give you a truly Heritage Stay without compromising on modern day comforts.

Boendet
This Mansion is the among the largest of the ageing 3000 plus Mansions spread across 72 villages and 2 towns where the Chettiars live, in the area commonly known as Chettinad.
The blue prints of the Mansion were preserved and a sixth generation granddaughter has taken pains to put into shape that which is presented here.
Built during 1902, the Mansion is spread over a sprawling 80,000 square feet in area. The Heritage of the Mansion has been carefully protected and just 8 rooms are open to guests who get the privilege of privacy.
The construction began in 1902 and it took ten years for completion. The mansion is huge and the rooms are embellished with the lavish use of Burmese Teak Wood, Italian Marble and English Steel. It contains several courts, halls and corridors with carved pillars. The proportions of the courts and corridors are quite sizeable, measuring up to your wildest expectations. As one enters the mansion one passes through the front yard comprising of the traditional Tulsi plant and a portico. Beyond the portico there is a beautiful veranda-crossing which leads to a marble hall. Flooring is made of white and black Italian marble and the pillars are of shining black marble. This is the marriage hall. Next comes the huge main courtyard which has two floors supported by Iron pillars. The second floor houses bedrooms with picturesque walls and attached bathrooms. Each bedroom has an entry into a common long balcony overlooking the street. It’s from here that you get to watch day-to-day life bloom and the other roofs of the village that paint the clear blue sky. An open shower has also been provided in the balcony.
After the main Court there is another hall, following which one enters into another courtyard called the second courtyard. And right through the middle of this courtyard runs a pathway. On either side of the central courtyard there are two huge dining halls called the Bojana (Food) Hall. There is also a third courtyard and a big back yard. The pillars in the various courts have been made of different materials. The pillars in the front varandha are made of lime mortar and those in the marriage hall are of black marble. The pillars in the pattalai before the central court are fortified with porisu wood, which takes compressible load more than other woods. It also takes polish well. While the pillars in the second court yard are made of steel, the ones in the third are made of stone. Similarly, the flooring too varies from court to court. The various kinds of flooring include lime mortar, marble, Athangudi tiles, Anai adi Kallu, etc. Pressed metal plates have been fixed in many places as false lining for the top ceiling.

Var du kommer att vara

Kanadukathan, Tamil Nadu, Indien

Chettinad is the home of the Nattukottai Chettiars, a prosperous banking and business community and also for Nattar Vallambars - a feudal community. It is also known for its local cuisine, architecture, and religious temples.
The Chettinad region is well known for its 19th-century mansions, whose wide courtyards and spacious rooms are embellished with marble and teak. Construction materials, decorative items and furnishings were mostly imported from East Asian countries and Europe. The marble was brought from Italy, chandeliers and teak from Burma, crockery from Indonesia, crystals from Europe and wall-to-wall mirrors from Belgium.
Many of these mansions were built using a type of limestone known as karai. Local legend has it that the mansion walls were polished with a paste made out of egg whites to give them a smooth texture.
Kanadukathan is most famous for its Chettinad cuisine and for the architecture of its houses, whose main entrances are shaped to resemble those of temples.

I am a traveller and a hotelier with an industry experience of over 15 years. We at Deshadan have been offering the perfect holiday experience since inception. At Deshadan, hospitality is more than just good stay, cuisine and leisure. It's the fine art of treating guests to a treasure trove of memorable moments. Deshadan came into being in 2000 with Deshadan Tours and Travels which promoted outbound tourism to Maldives and Sri Lanka. The success and recognition that came in a span of just 4 years prompted us to foray into resorts resulting in establishment of Kerala's highest mountain resort in Munnar in the year 2004. One year later in 2005, the heritage palace of the erstwhile Chettiyars was opened to offer a privileged and gracious retreat. This was followed by the opening of a beach resort in the picturesque Varkala and a houseboat division in paradisiacal Alappuzha in 2008. The year 2010 saw Deshadan open a village resort in Chettinadu and in 2012 an exquisite property on the banks of the mighty Vembanadu lake, a Backwater Resort. In 2017 Deshadan has glued itself to nature with our new property on the foot hills of the Western Ghats , at Kanthaloor, an eco friendly resort built With mud, rocks, wood and hay. With a penchant for personalized care and supreme value for money, Deshadan continues its journey of offering the most-sought after holiday experience in a range of exotic locations.
