Michael was an excellent host and made sure we were well educated on the history of the property. We loved seeing his collection of animals ranging from the beautiful ducks to his friendly dog. Our family had a blast and the property is amazing with beautiful views from the front porch of the yurt. We can't wait to visit again!

We spent two nights in the yurt on our way home from vacation and we’re looking for a couple days to just relax and not fill every moment with activities. This place was perfect for relaxation but also a little exploring! The stars were amazing, the views, the wildlife sounds at night - just perfect. It’s a great place to regroup, relax, and spend some time with nature and history!

This is a really special, magical place. The views are incredible. On clear nights we could see the stars through the bubble dome, and waking up in the morning we were greeted by the sun rising over the hills (the yurt is east-facing), even clouds of mist evaporating from between the hills. Inside is really anything you'd need—coffee maker, utensils, a little stove, fridge, and a couple of heaters. We found the yurt extremely comfortable, and temperature regulation was easy between adjusting velcro-flapped windows, removing the reflective sheet from the bubble dome to let more sun in, and of course adjusting the heaters if necessary. Hot water wasn't a problem and there's a water cooler in the yurt so you don't even have to worry about filtration. Michael was extremely accommodating and also let us have our privacy. There are lovely trails and open fields to explore around the property, and meeting the animals was such a treat! This is a beautiful place to get away, think, paint, write, read—everything might need is at your fingertips in the yurt, so you can just relax and just enjoy existing.

Everything was beyond expectation. Michael is an excellant host. The yurt is by far the coolest and cleanest place I've ever stayed at. It is fully equipped, all u need is to bring ur food and you have no reason to leave the property. Will definitely be going back asap! My dog loved it as much as i did!

This was the perfect weekend! The yurt is so much more than we were expecting; plenty of room, yet very cozy. It's central to any desired activities, ranging from the farmer's market, local brewery, and perfect for a quiet night around the fire. (Side note: Scallops are amazing cooked over hot coals in the fire ring!) Michael is very deserving of every star he has earned as a host!

This is a picture of me while Canoeing the Sangerfield River in the beautiful Nine Mile Swamp. The Yurt at Loomis Lair is located nearby, perched high above the Swamp.

I grew-up in Hamilton, NY, the home of Colgate University, which is about 10 miles from Loomis Lair. I went to School at Morrisville College (AAS-Mechanical Engineering Technology), Excelsior College (BS-Art and Design) and Rochester Institute of Technology (MFA- Industrial Design).

I have lived and worked in New Haven, CT, Los Angeles, CA, Rochester, Ithaca and Hamilton, NY. I have designed and fabricated Exhibits and Furniture for many years and I have more recently taught Industrial Design and Graphic Design at the college level.

I have been involved with the historic restoration of two houses and I was also a founding Board Member and the Secretary of the City Point Historic District Neighborhood Association in New Haven, CT.

I missed not being around the beautiful forests and fields of Central New York. I wanted to return to my roots in a place that I love and work toward achieving a more self-sustainable lifestyle.

I am the founder, owner and operator of Loomis Lair Yurt Rentals, since March of 2010.
