Our "castle" is the former Lawrence County Jail and Sheriff's Residence in Bedford, about 40 miles south of Bloomington and an hour from French Lick. The Tower Room has a comfortable queen-sized bed, private bath, and interesting original art.
Please note that we are located in Bedford, about forty minutes south of Bloomington and an hour northeast of French Lick. The former Lawrence County Jail and Sheriff's Residence is a very unusual historic landmark--in addition to the Victorian residence you see from the front, in back is a big old jail. The place oozes with local history and a somewhat spooky presence after dark.
Your second floor room, the first floor common areas (living and dining rooms and the porch), and the yard and rear parking lot will all be accessible. Please ask if you would like to use the kitchen. The top floor of the house is our private family space, but we will show you the view from the tower if you would like to see it.

I am always interested in talking to visitors, so I will interact as much or as little as you want, and time permits. I would also be glad to take you through the old jail if you're interested in seeing it.

A big B&B breakfast is included with your room rate.
We look forward to getting to know you and ask that you behave as you would like guests to behave in your home. Please, no pets or smoking.
I am a retired Foreign Service Officer. During my career I served in Germany, three countries in Africa, Georgia (the former Soviet republic, not the state), and Washington, D.C. I live with my husband Reza and our cat, Mr. Fuzz, in the former Lawrence County Jail and Sheriff's House, a really cool 1904 limestone landmark one block from the courthouse square in the quiet town of Bedford, Indiana. My husband and I work constantly to maintain, restore and renovate this crazy old castle, but it is still more quirky than elegant, full of reminders of the travels, tastes and talents of ourselves, our family and our friends.
I volunteer a lot of time to local organizations, particularly the Lawrence County Museum, which I will encourage you to visit while you're here, and the Bedford Rotary Club.
