You can try Shiraoi beef which tastes amazing, there are a few Shiraoi beef restaurant in Shiraoi called Amano Farm, Cowbell, Uemura farm etc or sometime you can buy them in super market called co-op or Kumagai in Shiraoi, you can cook them with pan at home. You can also try some other restaurants in Shiraoi, Mothers(Egg shop with small restaurant,sweets also very tasty. Tarakoya(Cod roe shop and small restaurants in Kojyohama area, nearby the restaurant you can see many salmon are coming back to their hometown river there to lay eggs after a few years travel in ocean in autumn, it's mysteries of nature )
There are some Onsen in Shiraoi too, you can try them.
About Skiing:
Sanlaiva skiing December – March. 35min drive form the house.
Rusutsu Skiing Resort
You can drive through Toya-lake with express road, it takes about 1 hour. Please ask me more detail if you need.
