Our home is unique, because its builder--a demolition contractor--used salvaged architectural materials. We have filled it with family pieces and art to increase its warmth and character. You also will love our neighborhood of shops and small cafes.
Antique double bed (new mattress) with reading chair and desk, lamps, art on walls; hallway bathroom (devoted to the airbnb room) w/ shower and tub combo. Living room welcomes you with wood fires in winter, cool quiet in summer.
Professional singles, couples or students will be most comfortable in this generous-sized bedroom. Bed has pillow-top mattress. Antique frame of bed also DOES HAVE A FOOTBOARD, which you should note if you are tall--it's not possible to hang feet over/off the end of the bed.
Antique furniture and original art throughout house; lovely porch or garden areas offer outdoor seating/reflection; chickens, dogs and cats at your convenience for petting. Hosts are native Southerners, long-time Atlanta-area residents with two grown children (one currently living at the home), and can give tips on entertainment, navigation and general well being. One host recently completed her doctorate.
One and one-half blocks to Village of Oakhurst for dining, shopping and entertainment; easy walk or bike ride to Agnes Scott College, downtown Decatur, or East line of MARTA rail (can drive to Eastlake MARTA station in under five minutes, or walk it in 10-15 minutes. ASK hosts about the best route to MARTA; a GPS often takes you out of your way and causes you to spend extra time in transit.) Convenient, 15 -20-minute drive to downtown Atlanta, Emory University or main campus of Centers for Disease Control, depending on traffic. MARTA from Eastlake to downtown also takes about 12-15 minutes, once you are on board the train.
By using the front door (we come in and out of the back), you will feel as if you have a private entrance. Wireless and off-street parking are standard. Iron, ironing board, hair dryer in closet. Small fridge and hot-water kettle, plus a coffee pot, and a small microwave are in the room for your use while here. There is a laundry and dry cleaners one and one-half blocks away to take care of your clothing.

We are happy to recommend restaurants and entertainment, drink coffee, tea or wine with you, or leave you entirely alone--it's your choice. If you are around and amenable, we may ask you to share a holiday meal with us. If we are out of town, a neighbor will serve as concierge.

Our safe, convenient location, and the charm of our home and neighborhood make this airbnb listing the place for you!
You are as close to the MARTA rail here in Decatur as you would be at any in-town space--at a much more digestible price.
We look forward to welcoming you with coffee/tea and conversation, and other gestures of hospitality. Please, no smoking on premises. You are free to enjoy the art, antiques and books, but take away only memories. Many of these pieces are family heirlooms with plenty of history and significance to the owners.
Extra charge for more than two persons.
No access to kitchen or laundry facilities on site--sorry. But one and one-half blocks away are a laundromat and many choices for eating out. Also, room has a fridge and microwave, in addition to utensils and dishes.
Instructions on keys, access, etc. will be given before you arrive at the home.
Full set of house rules and cautions (about greeter dog), Internet connections, etc. are framed and placed in the guest room. If the owners are not at home, a neighbor will serve as concierge.
A native of the South Carolina Lowcountry, Ann Ritter has made her home in the Atlanta, GA, area for the past 38 years. She is an author, performer and business woman, who also teaches and practices yoga and yoga therapy. Her partner for airbnb, Bob Holmes, is a commercial landscaper with a degree in ornamental horticulture and a life-long interest in golf. He grew up in NC on a private golf course and estate managed by his father and owned by the Avery Rockefeller family. Ann and Bob have two recently grown children.
Ann likes films, books (she is in three book clubs) and long walks. When she has lots of time, she loves to cook. Among her favorite films are The Red Violin, Catch Me if You Can and The Green Mile. Bob enjoys golf and likes music, from classical to country. His favorite artist likely is Carlos Santana.
The home in Oakhurst is most fortunately located in a highly walkable/bikeable area with many trees and gardens, and just about all you could want in conveniences--from a coffee shop to a quick mart, and nine restaurants and pubs located one and one-half blocks away.
After raising two children in Decatur and hosting many, many visiting students over the past 25 years, Ann and Bob look forward to getting to know other travelers from around the globe, and to welcoming them with good coffee/tea and conversation.
