The home of the former Property & Interiors editor of Country Life magazine, this Edwardian house is in a tree-lined street in Shepherds Bush, west London, about 10 minutes to the Tube, 15 minutes from Westfield (there are plenty of buses) and 20 minutes from Notting Hill. Perfect for families, there's a large garden with sun chairs and a gas barbecue and two working fires for atmospheric winter evenings. Sleeps 9 in beds. We have travel cots too.

Boendet
This is a large family house in a tree-lined residential street in Shepherd's Bush, a trendy west-London neighbourhood that borders Notting Hill. We are within walking distance of Westfield, one of London's best shopping malls, and also the new BBC Television Studios, which has the newest Soho House club (rooftop pool etc) as well as restaurants and boutique shops.

Here you have the balance: easy access to central London but away from the noise and drama of the city centre (Heathrow Airport is a 25 minute drive). There are two double bedrooms: one has a super king bed and the other a king-size bed with en-suite bathroom. There are two large bedrooms: one can be a single or a twin; the other can be a single, twin or triple (third in a trundle bed). All the bedrooms are large and light-filled and we've just completed a new kitchen breakfast room extension which has great views on to the garden.

There are two fully-equipped bathrooms plus a guest loo downstairs and another one upstairs.

The house is perfect for families: we have unlimited broadband for teenagers and there is a well-equipped playroom and a gypsy caravan playhouse in the garden. If you want to have a relaxed day after touring London, there's plenty to entertain children here. We enjoy cooking so there's a five-ring gas range with two ovens and a grill plus all the equipment you need (Nutribullet, Magimix, Le Creuset pots and pans etc). The kitchen is a great space for entertaining. We also have super-fast broadband.

Gästers tillgång
You'll be able to use all of the house. We have a studio apartment at the end of the garden (this is entered separately via a garden gate) which is home to our lovely au pair (who might be able to help out with any questions you might have during the stay if she's here).

London, Storbritannien

This is an area where Londoners live--unlike parts of the city (Belgravia, Mayfair) where lights are rarely on at night so it's a fantastic place for seeing London from the inside. We also have our own highly-regarded theatre, Bush Theatre, as well as regular gigs at both the Shepherd's Bush Empire and Bush Hall–all of which are in walking distance from the house.
Shepherd's Bush Market Tube is 10 mins; Shepherds Bush Tube is 15 mins. It's perfectly located for exploring London. Nearby Uxbridge Road is a lively high street with a useful supermarket stocking essential items, plus a pharmacy and other shops, cafes and restaurants. We're just a few minutes from Askew Road, which is lined with cafes and artisan bakeries and one of London's best butchers (The Ginger Pig).

More details!
Groceries
There are various options. The closest mini supermarkets are Co-op on Uxbridge Road 187-189 Uxbridge Rd, Shepherds Bush W12 9RA or there is a Sainsbury’s next to Wormholt Park (Cranston Court, Bloemfontein Rd, White City, London W12 7DH). Askew Road has a larger Co-op and a Tesco. For a larger shop, there is a big Waitrose in Westfield where there is also a Marks & Spencer.

Askew Road is a good source of food and coffee and is a short walk from the house—cross Uxbridge Road and walk down Becklow Road and turn left.
Bread: there are various bakeries on Askew Road, our favourite is Laveli (104 Askew Rd, White City, London W12 9BL) a little further down is a sourdough specialist October 26, which is also good.
Meat: the Ginger Pig on Askew Road is one of the best butchers in London (137-139 Askew Rd)
Fish: the nearest fishmongers is in Turnham Green Terrace (which is very good) but Waitrose has a fish counter in Westfield.
Wine and cheese: There’s a very good wine shop a 5-minute walk away on Askew Road: Askewine.

Eating out
Breakfast/brunch/lunch: There is a lovely café just 3 streets down called Proud Mary’s—also does nice lunch 1C Oaklands Grove, London W12 0JD
For a classic English ‘greasy spoon’ café, try Adams on Askew Road. Nigella Lawson is a fan (apparently) 77 Askew Rd, London W12 9AH
Laveli (see ‘bread’) does good breakfasts, lunch & tea
Caco & Co: open all day 116-118 Askew Rd, London W12 9AX
Lunch/dinner
Bush Hall Dining Room on Uxbridge Road is a lively bistro 116-118 Askew Rd, White City, London W12 9AX
Habanera, also on Uxbridge Road, is a Mexican bar/restaurant. 280 Uxbridge Rd, White City, London W12 7JA
The Oak W12, just at the end of Askew Road. Does seriously good wood-fired pizza and other food
A little further (20 min walk & very near Ravenscourt Park)
Two classic English pubs worth going to:
The Anglesea Arms, 35 Wingate Road, London W6 0UR
The Andover Arms, 57 Aldensley Road, London W6 0DL
Further still (30 mins walk to Brook Green or an easy Uber—you can take the 283 back all the way home)
Lovely, small Italian restaurant: Pentolina 71 Blythe Rd, London W14 0HP

There are also lots of family-friendly restaurants in Westfield as well as a multiplex cinema screen.

EATING IN
You can have pretty much anything you want delivered by using deliveroo or Uber eats.

Fun markets
Portobello Road, W11—open most days but some only in parts—best day Saturday
Golborne Road, W10—Saturday (top end of Portobello Road—vintage furniture). If you go here, try the new pop up Italian in the bottom of Trellick Tower called Panella—really good Sicilian food (no website).
Skittle Alley (Saturday morning) farmers market Black Lion Lane W6 9TJ
Further away:
Columbia Flower Market (Sundays only—Shoreditch E2)
Broadway Market for nice food (Saturdays) E8 (London Fields overground)
Borough market SE1 (food)—Fridays and Saturdays

Shopping tips
For all UK high street shops and more Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush has it all. You will be here for the sales so all the shops in Westfield will have their sales on so you might find what you’re looking for there. Otherwise, Oxford Street will be doing big price reductions. To get to Oxford Street either take the bus to Westfield (any of them from the stop at the end of our road—except the 228 which takes longer) and then get on the Central Line at Shepherd’s Bush.
For typically English presents and things for the home try Pentreath & Hall (17 Rugby St, London WC1N 3QT: Tube Holborn on Central Line or Russell Square on Piccadilly) and while you’re there Thornback & Peel (7 Rugby St, London WC1N 3QT). For pretty Scottish tartan fabric and interiors things, try Anta Scotland (14 Hinde St, Marylebone, London W1U 3BG; Tube: Bond Street).
For more interesting selection of shops, try Marylebone High Street (Tube: Bond Street and walk north)
See markets above for other suggestions
Another good shopping area is King’s Road in Chelsea (Tube: Sloane Square)
