A Taste of Traditional Japan, Surrounded by Forest, in an Extraordinary Natural Setting.
The Separate 4-Bedroom Guesthouse at the Magical Inn Is Perfect for Families & Groups. Can Be Booked for Exclusive Use by Special Arrangement, or Shared Like Typical B&B.
Full Kitchen...Spacious Bath...Private Garden...and Panoramic Ocean Views.
Our hand-crafted Main Lodge and the adjacent Guesthouse offer the serene beauty of Japan, with all the comforts of modern life.
Both lodgings were originally built for the director of a national hospital. In honor of his long service, the director was given permission to craft these two buildings in the national forest, overlooking a remarkably pristine coastline near the mouth of Tokyo Bay. There are no adjacent homes...just incredibly lush greenery and views of blue ocean.
A setting like this in Japan, just 20 km from Kamakura and an hour from the center of the world's largest city, is truly extraordinary.
This listing focuses on the Magical Inn Guesthouse, a large contemporary Japanese home which offers four distinctive bedrooms on two floors. Here, you enjoy the use of a full kitchen, as well as a separate Japanese bath, and a garden with ocean views.
* All "Magical Inn" listings are the same location. Airbnb can't list multiple rooms (and a home) in one listing, so we maintain three. We have more than three rooms, however, so if a calendar says "unavailable," just send a note via "Contact Host" and we'll take care of you.
* There are more pricing options as well. The Guesthouse is available two ways: the entire home, or private rooms. Rates shown are for one or two adults in one room, with individual futons. To book the entire (large) home, which can accommodate more than a dozen people, just let us know how many adults and kids, and we'll create a custom quote.
* The base is eight miles away, and there's easy public transport.
* We offer discounts for long-term stays. Just ask.
Separate Main Lodge listings:
Inside the Guesthouse, you will find an unusually large living and dining area, flooded with sunlight. On one side is the spacious, fully equipped kitchen; on the other is the Guesthouse garden.
The master bedroom features a large Western bed, with enough additional space to set up a futon for young kids. There are two large tatami rooms available for sleeping, plus a second Western-style bedroom, all with plush futons.
The Japanese bath and shower room is augmented by two toilets, one downstairs, and one up.
With prior arrangements, the Guesthouse and its separate garden can be booked for exclusive use by your family, or by a large group. Ask about lower rates for extended stays.
Next door at the Main Lodge, we have five sleeping rooms, each of which normally accommodates from two to six people with plush futons. You will also find a comfortable communal sitting area, and a large dining table.
There are a few nice restaurants and bars within walking distance, and scores within easy taxi/bus range. With prior arrangements, you can order a full BBQ set-up in the garden (5,000 yen).
Our expansive gardens regularly host parties, day and evening, with guests enjoying clear skies and stars while sitting on hand-made wooden benches around a fire.
One of the nicer beaches in the Kanto region lies 300 meters below the inn. This is not a Caribbean beach, but as the photos show, it's lovely in its own right. There's a paved path which runs for miles along both rocky and sandy shore. A legendary windsurfing spot -- home to Japan's national champions -- is just a few minutes down the road. This area is also great for paddleboards and kayaks.
Truly Tolkien forest hiking trails surround us, and will take you to the famous Kurihama botanical garden at the top of the mountain.
Most guests travel here from Tokyo -- either from Shinagawa Station (one train) or from Shibuya Station with a transfer at Yokohama. By either route, it takes roughly 55 minutes to arrive at the local train stop, Keikyu-Kurihama Station. From there it's 5 minutes to our place via taxi, or 15 minutes via one bus and a short 200-meter stroll.
There's a small market within a five-minute walk. There are major supermarkets and drugstores about one kilometer from the inn, along the bus route, and also adjacent to the train station.
If you need even more space than the Magical Inn Guesthouse offers, the Main Lodge has three rooms suitable for singles or couples. On the first floor...
The Blue Room: eight-mat size, sleeps up to three, with a shared toilet.
The Green Room: six-mat size, sleeps two, with sink en suite and a shared toilet.
The Yellow Room: six-mat size, sleeps two, with sink and toilet en suite.
Upstairs, there are two spaces suitable for larger groups...
The Tatami Room: 10.5 mats, sleeps up to six, with shared toilets.
The Loft: 10-mat size, sleeps up to five, with shared toilets.
Your on-site host is Kiyoe, who speaks English as well as Japanese.
We request that you reserve at least two or three days in advance, so we have time to chat and prepare for a great holiday.
The Magical Inn tends to attract creative personalities from around the globe, and folks with many decades of travel experience tell us that there is no better retreat in Japan. You may not want to return to "civilization."
Full kitchen, large bath, garden, much more.
