Our group of 8 eight stayed here for 2 nights. The rooms were small, dusty and cluttered and the basement room smelled like cat pee. The location is only appropriate for people who are driving. It took 2.5 hours (conservative estimate) to get from Charles de Gaulle on transit. I…

This is unfortunately a bit typical. I had to raise a claim against Whitney so she complains about the house. She left the house in a mess, and our cleaning lady spent 5 hours to clean the house after her 3-day stay! Because of our disagreement, she makes all sorts of false complaints. About the state of the house. Wrong : the house is swept and dusted at least once a week. She then claims that the basement smelled of cat pee! Wrong! She assumed we had a cat, as there is a cat door, but we don’t and we don’t accept animals in the house! She says the house is only suitable for people who have a car. It’s certainly easier if you have a car. But we’ve had travelers from all around the world mostly without car. And often, those who have a car, prefer to leave it (especially as parking is free in our street) and use public transportation to go visit Paris. I did not meet Whitney, as I was away when she stayed at my place. But I quickly found that she was very demanding. She made her reservations months in advance (January for a July stay) and kept sending me all sorts of questions not just about the house. She even asked me to check if her kids under 18 would benefit from free tickets to Versailles. Each time I spent the time to investigate and answer. I’ve lived abroad, I travel a lot, I’m always happy to help people traveling to my country. But in her case, it was very cumbersome on my part. We exchanged no less than 28 messages before she arrived, and some of them pretty long! She made a fuss when I told her that she hadn’t been charged for cleaning and would have to return the house in its original conditions. She said she wouldn’t have time to do that and was willing to pay for the extra charge. When she was in the house I sent her a message asking to leave the money in the mailbox. She did not care to answer. When I returned I did not find the money and subsequently rose a claim. Hence her bad comments.
The stay was acceptable but 2 of our group refused to stay in the basement where 3 of the beds were due to the musty, mildew smell. I stayed there and found it annoying but livable. The rest of the home was clean and comfortable. Upon arriving (Denis allowed us to drop our bags o…

My god ! what a story ! Libby’s message is absolutely full of lies. I don’t like lies so I’ll answer very precisely. Regarding their arrival: I have a fulltime job. Libby asked me if they could drop their luggage in my house before the normal check-in time. I had agreed even though it meant for me to be there in the middle of the morning. She had told me that she was going to arrive at 10 am. So I was at the house at 10 am waiting for her. She arrived at 11:15am. Not a single message to warn me. Funny, now Libby says that I complained. I actually didn’t, not a wink. Anybody can be late, and I understand the difficulty of reaching someone when you arrive in a foreign country. However I must say that most travelers have always warned me when they were going to be that late. In Libby’s case she did not even answer my message asking about the delay. Anyway, I did not say a thing about their delay, they didn’t really apologize for it either. They just said there was some traffic coming in. They diid not seem to care whether it had incommoded me. But despite what Libby wrote, there was absolutely no issue about it at that point! So, when she says “I was unsure what the issue was”, she’s just lying. Furthermore, she says I was in the house cleaning. I certainly had not returned to the house for that, but tiding up during this long wait and preparing linens was an obvious thing to do, wasn’t it. But before she arrived Libby had no idea if it was ok for me to wait for them for 75mn on a Monday morning, just to have them drop their luggage. So why pretend now that it was OK. She did not care to warn me, full stop. They then left, and as check-in was not before 3pm, I asked them what time they’d be back so we can do a proper check-in. They said around 8pm and no later than 9 pm. I gave my number to one of the people in her group who seemed to know Paris already. I returned to the house at 8pm that night. Guess what, I had to wait 2 hours without any notice from them. At some point I sent Libby a message via AirBnb but did not get a reply. Instead at 10:06 pm I get a message from her friend saying “ We are just finishing dinner. Can we meet around 11” !!! I told them that I could not stay (some friends were waiting for me for dinner!) and left the key in a hidden place for them. The next day, I was in the neighborhood early afternoon. Since we hadn’t done the check-in together, I figured, I’d come by and ask if everything was OK. If nobody had been there, I would have left. Simple. Funny that Libby complains that I came by unannounced. Not for one second I thought that I could send her a message and that she’d reply! The day before I’d sent her several messages and got no reply! And btw, the last day, I also sent her a message asking to confirm their time of departure and got no reply! The only reply I got was when she came back to the US I guess! So when I arrived I immediately noticed the broken step. Libby says the steps were old and it was (Email hidden by Airbnb) plete lie. Yes it’s old, but not the type that you can easily break because of its age. The step is made of cement. It was broken in 2 places, and one broken part was not even in its place anymore. There were bits of cements on the steps. The weekend before, my kids and I had worked in the garden and in particular cleaned the steps. There was no way we could not have noticed it. Libby afterwards said that some of her friends tripped over the stairs, but again, you can check all comments about the house and nobody ever complained to trip over the stairs. Which clearly shows it happened right there. A woman was at the house. She said she would ask the other people about the broken stair and let me know the next day. We agreed that I’d come back at 11 am the next day for their departure. Well the next day, when I arrived at the house at 11 am. They had left, again without any notice of their early departure, and without Libby answering my message asking to confirm. It would have saved me a return trip from my office to the house. About the linens. True, until June 2018, I was not supplying linens free of charge on short stays. The house has 8 beds. It’s costly to change all linens for just 1 or 2 nights. It was clearly indicated on my Airbnb Profile and nobody ever complained about it until Libby (check all the 85 comments on my house). People either brought linens or paid for the extra charge. But I changed the rules in June as I got a message from Airbnb saying that providing linens was going to become compulsory. So I’m now charging €8 per guest to pay for linens. Libby can easily verify that: if she made her reservation today she’d incur that extra charge. So why make it sound like I was trying to rip her off ??? Plus, when I told her on arrival, she said she did not have euros and that they would pay it on departure. And she didn’t. And of course as is becoming standard now, whenever you raise a claim against guests they write a bad review and give you bad marks.
