I enjoy hosting and I am always taking suggestions to heart to improve the guests experience. In Mitchell's case I think it is best to explain why he gave me a one star. Mitchell booked one night at a fairly low rate of $98. Since it is a whole house and I pay my cleaner a living wage to clean the cleaning fee was almost as much as his room rate. This was clearly stated in Mitchell's itinerary. Mitchell left the house close to check out time, which I assumed he had checked out. My cleaner got there a couple of hours after that and notified me that the previous guests had trashed my house and it smelled really bad. Dishes, trash, and clothes that had been left everywhere. She initially thought that homeless had broke into it and were squatting. I quickly tried to call Mitchell with no answer. I tried to text Mitchell no answer. I called Airbnb and they tried several times to reach Mitchell with no answer. We had guests coming to check in two hours so I made the decision to put all of Mitchell's items back in the two bags he left and what would not fit to put in clean trash bags and have them safely kept in my garage. The place was so bad that my cleaner called in a second person to help her. They ended up taking several hours to clean the place and get it ready for the next guest. Unfortunately that guest ran out of patience and found a different option. Mitchell claims in his review that I threw his bags outside which is completely false. I secured them in my garage. There were a few personal items that got inadvertently thrown away as they were mixed in with the vast amount of trash that my cleaner had to contend with. After hosting over 250 groups and almost 200 reviews this is the first time I have ever had this happen and hopefully the last.
