Come and stay in our bothy on the grounds of the Kings Tree by which Robert The Bruce entertained his troops with tales of valour and a singalong whilst awaiting the safe crossing of his men over Loch Lomond. The bothy sits next to our family home and sits within a truly stunning setting in an iconic location on the western shores of Loch Lomond. The bothy takes in fantastic views across the loch over to Ben Lomond. Guests will be met on arrival and departure.
The origins of the cottage were settled amidst the great Scottish Rebellion of 1745, the year of General George Wade, the English Commander-in-chief, was ordered by the King to deal with the rebellious Scottish Highlanders. Wade built a series of forts, bridges and roads to enable troops to patrol the region. The remains of one of the roads can still be seen within the grounds today.
We are close to the picturesque villages of Tarbet and Arrochar and with the seaside town of Helensburgh approximately 13 miles away providing a wide selection of amenities. Balloch is nearby, within about 14 miles drive and just along the western shore of Loch Lomond is the iconic Loch Lomond Golf Club, the renowned Cameron House Hotel and the Carrick Golf Resort and Spa. The area is synonymous for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits with great walks and hill climbs, stunning scenery and fantastic wildlife.

The local church is a beautiful building with a very old graveyard and well worth a look. The Anchorage is a great base to use to go travelling around Argyll and beyond with Inveraray just a half hour drive and Loch Lomond also on it's doorstep. There are lots of water sports and sailing at Gareloch - boats can be hired at Roseneath Castle Park and classes are available throughout the summer. At the south west of Roseneath peninsula at Cove Bay is Linn Botanic Gardens - due to the mild climate, many exotic species thrive here. Inveraray Inveraray is situated on the shore of Loch Fyne - famous for its excellent seafood and kippers. The tourist information centre on Front Street has full information on the area. Inveraray is famous for its fine architecture and for being home of Inveraray Castle - seat of the Dukes of Argyll. From the castle grounds a five-mile walk winds up Glen Shira leading to the Falls of Aray and to ruins of the home of Rob Roy. Other attractions in Inveraray include the Maritime Museum, Inveraray Jail and the Argyll Wildlife Park. Six miles south of Inveraray is Auchindrain Township Museum - the original buildings are furnished and a visit is an entertaining day out for everyone. Four miles to the south is Crarae Gardens, containing one of the best Rhododendron collections in Scotland. In the north of the county in a picturesque setting at the head of Loch Awe, is the ruined 16th century Kilchurn Castle, which incorporates the first purpose built barracks in Scotland. The road through the Pass of Brander takes you to Taynult and nearby Bonawe Iron Furnace, the most complete charcoal-fuelled ironworks in Britain. Dunoon Dunoon is in the south of the Cowal peninsula. It was built around two bays and was planned for the 5th Duke of Argyll by James Craig, who designed the 'new town' in Edinburgh. On Castle Hill, below the remains of Dunoon Castle, is a statue of 'Bonny Mary O' Argyll' (Mary Campbell), sweetheart of Robert Burns. Dunoon is host to the Cowal Highland Games held on the last Friday and Saturday in August annually, one of the largest Highland gatherings in Scotland. A few miles north of the town is Benmore Botanic Garden, famous for its collection of flowering trees and shrubs. North of Oban on the A828 at Barcaldine, on the shore of Loch Creran is the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary, which cares for many species of injured and orphaned marine creatures. It's an interesting place for family visits. Oban In the north of Argyll the busy town of Oban has all the facilities of a larger town that you might need. Notable features are the ruins of 13th century Dunollie Cast, and McCaig's folly. Built on a hill overlooking the town, this is an unfinished replica of the Colosseum in Rome. Approximately twenty miles south of Oban, overlooking the Sound of Jura, is the delightful Arduaine Garden. Lochgilphead is the chief town of Mid Argyll. North of the town in Kilmartin Gle is an important collection of ancient monuments, many of which are prehistoric. A visit to Kilmartin Museum and visitor centre is well worth while. Tarbert lies at the gateway to the Kintyre peninsula. It is an old fishing town, and today a popular port for yachtsmen sailing the west coast of Scotland. It lies on the tiny isthmus linking Knapdale and Kintyre. Campbeltown, is the main town centre of the long peninsula of Kintyre. Further south is Machrihanish, the site of a classic golf course. The Off Shore Islands of Argyll and Bute The Isle of Bute Rothesay is the main town on the Isle of Bute, an island in the lower Firth of Clyde. Bute lies at the foot of the Cowal Peninsula and is separated from it by the stretch of water known as the Kyles of Bute, one of the most popular holiday destinations on the west coast of Scotland. The island is only 15 miles long and 5 miles wide. The Highland Boundary Fault line runs through the island creating a contrast, with three hills above 800 feet lying to its north. These are Windy Hill 911 feet, Kames Hill 875 feet and Kilbride Hill 836 feet. Unsurprisingly, all providing magnificent views. South of the fault line is undulating countryside, five delightful bays, quiet villages and the resort Rothesay. Rothesay is a pretty town with interesting attractions such as Rothesay Castle, with its unusual circular plan; Mount Stuart, the family home of the Stuarts of Bute, a spectacular house with a delightful garden, well worth visiting. Other places of interest are Bute Museum and south of Rothesay is Ascog Hall Victorian Fernery and Gardens. The Isle of Mull The Isle of Mull is one of the islands in the Inner Hebrides. Tobermory, at the north of Mull is the largest village on the Island. Tobermory was planned in the late 1700s to provide housing for fishermen's families. Today the town caters for tourism and has a golf club, yacht club, folk museum and interesting shops. The town's many brightly painted houses feature in the BBC's series for children 'Balamory'. It also lent its name to one of the Wombles of Wimbledon Common! Mull is a beautiful Island with many clean sandy beaches and bays. Inland is moorland, forest and mountains, the highest of which is Ben More at 3,000 feet. Wildlife such as golden eagles, otters, dolphins and even whales can be spotted in and around the island. The wild scenery of Mull was the background of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel 'Kidnapped'. Craignure is an attracrive town with a pier. Just south of Craignure is Duart Castle - the family home of the Clan Maclean. Iona and other Islands South west of Mull is Iona, where in AD563 Columba landed from Ireland to extend the gospel in Scotland. The island is a centre for Christian pilgrimage and one of the most sacred sites in Britain. A group of small islands lying southwest of Oban are known as the Slate Islands. The island of Easdale is home to the Easdale Island Folk Museum, providing a fascinating insight of the time when these islands were the centre of the Scottish slate industry. Jura in the Inner Hebrides is rugged and mountainous, the highest point is the triple peaks, 'The Paps of Jura'. Along the west coast are beaches and caves, the island is almost divided in two by Loch Tarbert. The main village is Craighouse, where the local distillery makes Isle of Jura whisky. Islay is the most southerly of the Inner Hebridean islands. Famous for the production of malt whisky, the island is home to several distilleries. Islay is widely held to be one of the most beautiful of the islands, with fine beaches and bays. Many birds inhabit the island and birdwatchers come to see species such as Cormorant, Oystercatcher, Chough and in February Barnacle Geese. Several Celtic crosses are to be found in Islay, the best example being Kildalton Cross. A visit to the Museum of Islay Life, is a fascinating experience for all ages. There is so much to see and do however if guest are just wishing to stay and relax then the Anchorage is the perfect place to do so.

A gem of a cottage offering loch & mountain views, a sun room and a wood burning stove. Perfect for walkers being just steps away from the start of marked walking trails in Lochgoilhead.
WELCOME TO IVYBANK COTTAGE A gem of a cottage offering loch & mountain views, a sun room and a wood burning stove. Perfect for walkers being just steps away from the start of marked walking trails in Lochgoilhead. LOCATION WITHIN THE LOCH LOMOND NATIONAL PARK Ivybank was built around 150 years ago as the gardeners cottage for the large Victorian villa situated next door. When the owners modernised the holiday home they were careful to retain many original features. Inverlounin Road is a single track private road leading from the village and following the east shore of Loch Goil. In parts the road is in an elevated position and there are many original grand Victorian homes built between the road and the grounds sloping down to the loch side. Parking is at a premium so the parking bay for one car off the road at the entrance to the property is a great start. As soon as you step out of your car you will be drawn to the view. The cottage is elevated from the lochside and this is only a taste of the uninterrupted views to be enjoyed from the outside patio area. Care has been taken to make sure access is suitable for all. There is a ramp with a slight slope to a side door and then one step to enter the property. From there all rooms, except the double bedroom, are on one level so Ivybank is suitable for anyone with limited mobility. It is a pleasant 10 minute stroll down Inverlounin Road into the village where you will find the post office and general good store and the Goil Inn which is the village pub and restaurant. Either a 30 minute walk through the village, or around the lochside; or a 5 minute drive on quiet roads, you will find more dining and activities available at the Drimsynie Estate. For a small lochside village there truly is an impressive choice of places to go and things to do. Boat hire is available in the village, with free fishing on the loch. There are endless walks from the doorstep for all ages and fitness and cycling and mountain biking give access to fabulous views. TOUR THE COTTAGE You enter the cottage via the patio area into the sun room. Being on the east side of the loch you have the sun till late in the day when it dips behind Beinn Bheula and Beinn Lochain. The sun room is private and perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view and looking out for the visits from the red squirrels and bird life in the garden. From the sun room you enter a small hallway which has a full sized walk in shower and toilet off to one side. The kitchen is modern and equipped with everything you need for a self-catering holiday. There is a wall mounted TV with its own signal. You can watch a different programme than what is being shown in the lounge. The heart of the cottage is the spacious lounge. Who wouldn’t enjoy the special effect that a wood burning stove adds to a lounge? The modern touch of a large wall mounted TV with Freeview makes for a cosy space to socialise and relax. Ample hot water on demand and the cottage is heated by temperature controlled space heaters. Towels are provided. To the front of the cottage is the patio area with a path leading down to the garden which is built on three terraces. The views across the loch to the far hills are stunning at any time of year, and sunsets are a delight. Our 3 bedroom self catering cottage is a few minutes from the 'bonnie bonnie banks' of Loch Lomond. The cottage is situated in the village of Tarbet, facing Ben Reoch and with views to Ben Lomond. The cottage is 9 years old and is named after the local mountain with the very distinctive peak. It is the perfect location for exploring the beautiful scenery of the local area with an abundance of walks hikes and cycles from the doorstep.
Downstairs is an open plan layout including living room, dining area and kitchen. Downstairs also hosts Bedroom 1 which is a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. There is also a larger bathroom including shower and a bath. The living room has a Freest TV & DVD player. Wi-fi network throughout the cottage. Upstairs there are 2 good sized bedrooms. Bedroom 2 has 2 single beds and Bedroom 3 has a single and a double bed. Children are welcome and the cottage contains a high chair and a travel cot. Children might also like the mystery box of kids toys and DVDs. Older 'children' might also enjoy a game of Stramash. This Scottish board game is a must-play. The rules were approved by the Board of the International Stramash Society of Edinburgh in 1852....will you be the first 'tae git yer five laddies face ya dock tae ya castle until it's strait'..?!
The cottage is located in Tarbet on the Western banks of Loch Lomond. Most visitors arrive by car but the Arrochar/Tarbet train station is a few hundred yards up the road. This connects directly with Glasgow to the South and Fort William, Oban and the spectacular Glenfinnan Viaduct to the North. Good bus access too. The banks of Loch Lomond are a few minutes away. Tarbet hosts a jetty and is a base for Loch Cruises. There are a variety of these available as advertised at the jetty or on the website. Some of the cruises allow you to disembark in the morning, walk part of the West Highland Way and get the boat back across later in the afternoon. In the cottage you will find a wide range of leaflets and notes on places to eat locally, walks and cycles to undertake as well as places to visit.

Welcome to my newly renovated home on beautiful Loch Goil, deep in Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. It's a warm, cozy and comfortable space to relax and enjoy the stunning views of Loch Goil and the surrounding mountains. It's the perfect holiday destination for lovers of the great outdoors or anyone looking to get away from it all.
This detached bungalow is set in large mature, enclosed gardens and is surrounded by mountains, woodlands and streams, and of course Loch Goil which meets the bottom of the garden. The adventurous can launch water going equipment from the house, and the slightly less adventurous can enjoy a cup of coffee with an uninterrupted view sat on the sea wall. I have just refurbished the house to live in to an exceptional standard, and rent it out from time to time whilst travelling. As such I would expect guests to treat it like their own home. The open plan living area has a vaulted ceiling with exposed wooden beams, an exposed brick fire place, floor to ceiling windows overlooking the loch, an upright piano, a breakfast bar and a round table with seating for 8 (10 at a push). The floor is finished in oak, the worktops in granite, and great attention to detail has been put into the lighting which I’m sure will impress. It has 4 bedrooms, sleeping 10 guests, and has two full size bathrooms. Each bedroom has a walk in wardrobe for guest use The house is powered by a sustainable air source heat pump, and as such has pressurised hot water from the rainfall showers in each bathroom. We have 35Mb Broadband, 4G phone reception and ASDA will deliver food if you wish. Well behaved dogs are allowed in the main living area for a small extra cleaning fee, but please not in the bedrooms. Anyone frightened of dogs should be aware that my next door neighbour rescues Huskies, which although are beautiful and friendly, may sing together at meal times! If you ask in advance I may be able to arrange meeting the Huskies! If you bring your own dog please make sure it doesn’t sit and bark at the Huskies all day. Please note Lochgoilhead, like much of the Highlands, can have large numbers of midges (small biting insects) in the summer.
There are marked lochside and forest walks from the door, sea angling in the loch and river fishing by permit. An indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, along with a restaurant, bar and 9-hole golf course are available at Drimsynie, which is a 20 minute walk from the house. The village centre with local shop and pub are a 5 minute walk. A 20 minute drive away is Loch Fyne, with its world famous Oyster Bar and Inveraray, with its picturesque castle and medieval jail.
