“Speakeasy Ales & Lagers has been defiantly brewing small batches of beer in San Francisco’s Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood since 1997. The brewery started with a single iconic beer, still made today, called Prohibition Ale. The hoppy amber beer embodies the spirit of bootleggers and gangsters who persevered when America’s taps ran dry. The brewery quickly gained a loyal following with bold, complex beers, and striking 1920s imagery. In 1999, Big Daddy IPA was added to the lineup and became San Francisco’s best-selling IPA. The beer is still Speakeasy’s kingpin, representing 40% of the brewery’s sales, among a wide array of acclaimed beers, from session ales to bourbon barrel-aged stouts.”

“Kristin's favorite local brewery. Easy parking in an industrial area in Bayview. Family-friendly, with plenty of games and pinball machines. Often a food truck on the weekends, but you can also bring your own food.”

“Gem of a restaurant in an otherwise bit of a real food desert. Refurbished a few years ago and now has an even nicer feel to it ... a great historical revamp in the neighborhood makes it fun to go.”

“Established in 1959, Sam Jordan’s is the oldest African American Bar in San Francisco. The bar is located in the Bayview/Hunters Point community. Sam Jordan was an African American businessman, community leader and activist. Born in Diboll, TX in 1925, Sam moved to San Francisco in 1947. A Navy veteran, he worked as a longshoreman and warehouseman. He achieved boxing success in the San Francisco Golden Gloves. A light-heavyweight, he won the championship diamond belt in 1948. Sam would serenade the crowd after every win and became known as “Singing Sam.” He opened the doors to “Sam Jordan’s Tavern” (the former name) in 1959. This is an iconic spot. ”
