There are also a wide range of traditional pubs, shops and restaurants, making Bourton perfect for guests of all ages. The village is surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside, and the many picturesque market towns and villages of the Cotswolds are all within easy reach, as are further afield places, such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Bath. Bourton-on-the-Water is arguably one of the most popular villages of the Cotswolds, especially amongst overseas visitors. Having been nicknamed the "Venice of the Cotswolds", its scenery is the main draw for travellers. The River Windrush meanders through beautiful English countryside before passing over rapids next to the Old Mill and arriving at Bourton. The river is fed from many springs, with the source approximately ten miles from the village and, after flowing under the bridges of Bourton, it passes other villages before eventually joining the Thames. There are various attractions in the village, including the famous Birdland, which is home to a variety of birds from around the world. Here visitors can see parrots, pelicans, flamingos and penguins to name just a few, with experienced keepers feeding the birds and leading demonstrations. The Model Village is well worth a visit, as Bourton is the only village in the Cotswolds to have a one-ninth scale replica of itself. It is carefully maintained and has all of the characterful buildings including the Old Water Mill and the Old New Inn. Those lucky enough to witness snow in the winter months will notice photographers at the model village trying to get the perfect picture of the snowy scene. Another family favourite is the Dragonfly Maze. This yew maze leads visitors through the labyrinth, gathering clues in order to find the pavilion in the centre which enables them to unlock the final secret! The maze was constructed by Kit Williams, author of the golden hare treasure hunt book, "Masquerade". Food & Drink Bourton has a variety of places to eat and drink, including cafes, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, with a range of prices to suit all budgets. The list below is a small sample of the options available: The Chester House Hotel and The Croft Restaurant (www.chesterhousehotel.com): Breakfast, morning coffee, lunches and evening meals in a riverside restaurant. You can enjoy freshly prepared, local produce throughout the day and night, with seasonal specials added to the menu daily. The Duke of Wellington (www.dukeofwellingtonbourton.co.uk): A local village inn aiming to provide fresh home cooked food with a friendly service. There is a light snacking menu, a full menu and a wonderful range of desserts and hot beverages. As well as daily home cooked specials, on Sundays you can enjoy a traditional carvery with all the trimmings from 12-6pm. The Mousetrap Inn (www.mousetrap-inn.com): A traditionally run Cotswold stone Inn, with a history dating back to the building of the railways in the 18th Century. Serving home-made food, along with fantastic, locally brewed real ales. The Village Restaurant & Tearooms (www.thevillagerestaurant.co.uk): Traditional, home cooked food in a friendly atmosphere, overlooking the river Windrush, in the heart of Bourton-on-the-Water.

Summary Maisey Cottage is a charming, 200-year-old, Grade II listed Cotswold cottage, located in the tiny West Oxfordshire village of Kencot, 5 miles from Burford. It is an ideal holiday destination for up to four people, ideally two couples, sleeping across 2 double bedrooms. A beautiful old Cotswold village home, with wood burner and original features, combined with a contemporary kitchen/dining area, opening onto a covered area, family bathroom and separate shower room, plus road-side parking for 2-3 cars and a secluded garden. It is the perfect cottage and location from which to explore the Cotswolds by car, on foot or on a bicycle. Introduction As you drive into Kencot, you immediately feel the peaceful calm of this pretty Cotswold village, which extends all the way up and into Maisey Cottage. This typical, honey-coloured Cotswold stone property, with original leaded window panes, dates back at least 200 years and has been owned by the same family for over 100 years. Its high garden wall hides a delightful gravelled garden where guests can sit and enjoy the sound of birdsong, and very little else. Heading through Maisey Cottage’s wooden door into the walled garden, you’ll be impressed by the huge, overhanging Robina pseudoacacia tree and pretty border full of flowers and herbs. There’s space here to sit out and enjoy the surroundings and prepare a BBQ. (An electric car charging point in the garden is available to guests for a separate additional fee on a per night basis.) The heart of the cottage – the Central Hallway, Master Bedroom and Living Room - dates back over 200 years, while the new extension, with a fully equipped kitchen/dining area with underfloor heating, and second bedroom, was added in 2016. The Living Room has a wood burning stove and original flagstone flooring, made cosy with Persian rugs, while the bright and airy, contemporary kitchen/dining area is a delightful eating and entertaining space. Maisey Cottage has free, off-road parking for 2-3 cars. Kencot is a small, peaceful village in West Oxfordshire, at the centre of a triangle formed by Burford (5 miles), Lechlade (5 miles) and Witney (8 miles). Welcome to Court Hayes, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Court Hayes was originally two cottages, which have been lovingly restored, to create a large and interesting two bedroomed property. The Cotswold stone cottage sits in the picturesque and peaceful village of Wyck Rissington, across the road from the 800 year old St Laurence's church, where the famous composer, Gustav Holst, was the resident organist between 1892 and 1893. Court Hayes is perfectly placed for exploring the Cotswolds, whether by car or on foot, and is close to the beautiful market towns of Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!

Contains a king size bed. Narrow stairs, with restricted height, lead up from bedroom 1 to: En-suite bathroom: In the eaves of the house, with exposed stone walls and wooden beams, contains a claw foot bath with shower attachment, basin and toilet. Stairs lead up from the dining room to: Bedroom 2: A large, eaves room, with beautiful exposed beams, which contains two single beds. There is a small shower room and a separate room, with a toilet and small basin. The large, enclosed garden is to the rear of the house, backing onto farmland. There is a patio area, with a charcoal barbecue, an outdoor table and seating for four. The lawn then runs down to a further, separately enclosed wildlife area, with a pond and a summer house.
The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

In just a 5-10 minute drive you will find yourself on the High Street of Burford, a stunning medieval market town with plenty to offer. The excellent Co-operative su-permarket on the High Street stocks all immediate shopping requirements and is open 7am – 10pm every day of the week. There is also a Co-operative supermarket in Lech-lade, a 5-10 minute drive in the opposite direction to Burford, open 8am-8pm every day. There are some great cafés in Burford. Head towards the historic church and you will discover the newly built Warwick Hall and café, ideal for a morning coffee and snacks. Another good spot for a reviving cup of coffee or tea is Lynwood & Co on the High Street, where you can also buy delicious local artisan-made Sourdough bread and of course the famous Huffkins tea shop. If you find yourself parking in the main car park for Burford near the church (free parking) you will cross the mill-race connecting to the charming River Windrush that meanders through the Cotswolds, a lovely spot to feed the ducks and swans! Burford used to be a major coaching town between London and the West Country and was home to 35 coaching inns! The town still retains 13 pubs, of which some favour-ites are The Angel, a very good gastropub, The Highway and The Lamb on Sheep Street. There’s also a great variety of specialist shops to explore – including Maggie White and the fascinating Tolsey Museum. Alternatively, The Victoria in Eastleach, a very pretty Cotswold village nearby, is about an hour walk from the cottage and is a wonderful pub with good food, recommended by Emma and William. Also highly recommended - The Five Alls in Filkins and The Bell in Langford, both excellent pubs. All are popular so booking is essential. Around 5 miles south of the cottage, you will find Lechlade-on-Thames, a small historic town on the Thames, from which London could be reached by boat. With plenty of walks, a thriving market square, pubs, cafes and antique shops, Lechlade is slightly off the beaten tourist track compared to Burford and makes for a great day out. Here you will find a fantastic butcher, Cutler & Bayliss, selling high quality meat, cheese, fresh vegetables and bread as well as another Lynwood & Co café. If you fancy exploring a bit further afield, the beautiful ancient Roman market town of Cirencester is about 10 miles south and also there’s Witney which is an easy 11-mile drive east towards Oxford. Like Cirencester it has a great array of high street shops, larger supermarkets such as M&S, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s, eateries and a modern cinema complex. Also, around 15 miles away is the renowned Daylesford Organic Farm in Kingham, a farm complex that offers a farm shop, restaurant, spa as well as other activities such as farm tours and cooking courses. A very warm and modern flat right near the centre of town. We have a spacious single bedroom available. The flat is shared with a very tidy and sociable gentleman, Mark. We aren’t often home so it will feel like you have the place to yourself. Ideal for midweek stopovers or short stays.
We have a brand new bathroom and an open plan kitchen / lounge area.
  • Mycket bra storlek för enkelrum, fredlig, bara jag gillar. Sängen var lite mjuk för mig, men det är förmodligen mig och inte sängen.

Welcome to Causeway Cottage, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Causeway Cottage is a delightful Grade II listed property which sleeps six guests, in three well presented bedrooms, with two bathrooms. Dating back to the mid-17th century, the property has an abundance of character features including exposed wooden beams, a stone mullion window, terracotta tiling in the kitchen and two inglenook fireplaces, one of which has a wood burning stove. To complement these traditional features, the property has been finished in a contemporary style with the addition of modern facilities such as wireless internet access, a Smart TV and a well-equipped kitchen. Built from original Cotswold stone, Causeway Cottage has a beautiful exterior to match its interior, with a wonderful wisteria trailing across the porch and living room windows, and dormer windows on the first floor which offer lovely views across the garden. The enchanting garden is an excellent spot to socialise with friends and family in the warmer months and there is off-street parking for up to three cars on the gravel driveway. Causeway Cottage is situated in the heart of the picturesque village of Old Minster Lovell, an unspoilt village with a mixture of attractive thatched and Cotswold stone cottages. The village benefits from a well-regarded pub, the Old Swan, which prides itself on its use of local ingredients, and the 12th century parish church of St Kenelm is just a short walk away from the cottage. Alongside the church lie the extensive ruins of Minster Lovell Hall, a former 15th century manor house which is now a Grade 1 listed building maintained by English Heritage. Old Minster Lovell is also home to Minster Mill, a luxury hotel with a spa and restaurant which members of the public can utilise by appointment only. The larger residential settlement of New Minster is just a ten minute walk away, with another popular pub and a local shop. Located within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are many local walks and cycle trails to explore, including those along the River Windrush which flows through the village itself. Old Minster Lovell is well placed for visiting many of the charming towns and villages of the Cotswolds including the medieval market town of Burford with its wide range of eateries, and the scenic village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the “Venice of the Cotswolds” due to the many arching bridges which cross over the River Windrush. The popular tourist destinations of Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill, Cirencester and Oxford are within easy reach for day trips. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!

Directly outside the kitchen there is a paved patio area with an outdoor table with seating for six, as well as two comfy chairs looking out over the lawn. The patio is bordered by a low dry-stone wall, which itself is bordered by fragrant lavender, and in the late spring the gorgeous wisteria and climbing flowers add splashes of colour to the Cotswold stone exterior. A second patio can be found beneath the mature trees at the side of the garden and this area contains a charcoal barbecue and two sun loungers. Just off the driveway is a double garage which houses a large table tennis table and croquet set. The gravel driveway has off-street parking for up to three cars.

Welcome to Middle Gable The Old Hall, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Middle Gable The Old Hall is one of the most picturesque and historic properties in the Cotswolds, forming part of an original 17th century manor house, dating from the time of the English Civil War, over 350 years ago. This grade II* listed property sits in peaceful gardens, in the heart of the famous Cotswolds market town of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds". This lovely town has numerous shops, restaurants and pubs, and is ideally located for exploring the entire Cotswolds region and beyond. Important Customer Notice: - Special Events: Christmas, New Year and the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival are Special Events, with bookings typically limited to weeks only from a specific start day If your dates don’t appear to fit, then please click Contact Host below to find out what options may exist for you!
Middle Gable The Old Hall is accessed via its garden, which leads to the beautiful wooden front door. Inside the house, a small entrance hall leads into: Living room: A grand room, which has been newly refurbished in a traditional style, enhancing the abundance of period features, including stone mullion windows, a large fireplace with wood-burning stove, wooden beams and a centuries old alcove. The refurbishment includes a limestone flagged floor, with underfloor heating, and the provision of a flat screen satellite TV and Blu-ray home theatre system with an iPod docking station. The living room then leads into the Inner Hall, which in turn leads to: Shower room: Contains a shower, basin and toilet; Kitchen/dining room: The kitchen is well equipped, including a cooker with hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washer dryer. There is a good sized dining table, with five chairs, and the layout of the room ensures that all guests can socialise whilst cooking is in progress. Returning to the Inner Hall, a grand wooden staircase leads up to the first floor hallway, off which are: Bedroom 1: The initial highlight of the room is the spectacular super-king size four poster bed and this impressive room also has what is believed to be the original wooden flooring, stone mullion windows and the original “wig and gown” cupboard. There is a flat panel satellite TV in the room; Bathroom: Contains a bath with shower attachment, basin and toilet. The staircase then continues up into the gable of the house, giving access to: Bedroom 2: A very spacious, dual aspect eaves bedroom, with beautiful original wooden beams. The room contains three single beds, two of which can be pushed together and one of which doubles up as a sofa (it is a full size adult bed, however). Heading back downstairs and out of the front door, the lovingly cared for open plan gardens spread out in front of you. In Middle Gable The Old Hall’s garden, extending from the front of the house, there is a bench, for relaxing and looking out over all the gardens, as well as a paved seating area, which contains an outdoor table and chairs. At the end of the garden is a double garage for guest use.

Rum belägna i värden hem, utan separering.

The Pigsty has been lovingly converted into a double en suite room with TV, internet, tea and coffee. The room opens up onto a sunny, newly paved court yard with outdoor seating for you to enjoy. The private entrance via a locked gate means you can come and go as you please. Located in central Lechlade with the river Thames, open fields, pubs, restaurants and cafes on your door step. It's a vibrant and friendly market town with plenty to do!
Built circa 1805 this property was originally a pigsty and later converted in to the wash house for the cottage built around 1850. Now it's a quirky en suite room with handmade mahogany double glazed doors and windows, under floor heating, stone sink, remote controlled lighting and extractor fan and opens up onto a sunny court yard for you to enjoy. The room itself can be used as living room, bedroom or work space with the fold out futon and table, as illustrated in the photos. Note: due to limited space, toilet has a curtain instead of a door. Pigsty is located about 4 metres from my kitchen/back door
Lechlade a very social and friendly place. The terrace row where the Pigsty is situated is a throw back to 1940s living, with close neighbours and cups of tea over the garden fence. It's charming and you'll certainly live like a local and not a tourist.

We have a lovely private suite of rooms with double bedroom (with king size bed), shower room and sitting room on the ground floor of our family home. We live in a beautiful Grade II listed converted barn in the village of Alvescot, West Oxfordshire.
Located on the ground floor of Priory Barn. A very private suite of rooms to include one bedroom with king size bed, separate shower room with basin and loo and sitting room. The shower room is on the small size but does have an excellent shower! The sitting room has a large TV with freeview sofa coffee making facilities.
Things to Do and See (here are just a few suggestions!) We are 5 miles from the picturesque town of Burford, 4 miles from Lechlade on Thames and 3 miles from Bampton (where many scenes from the TV drama Downton Abbey, were filmed). There is a wonderful garden centre in Burford (Burford Garden Company), many nearby beautiful gardens/stately homes and old manor houses (Friar’s Court, Kelmscott Manor, Buscot Park, Blenheim Palace etc). There are also lots of stunning walks along the Thames and of course right on our own doorstep we have miles of countryside. Please do just ask us for further information and directions. If you are out on a local walk – look out for Gary Barlow (of the boy band Take That!) and family – they have a house in our village! Eating Out – we are spoilt for choice; The local village pub, The Plough serves lovely pub food and is a short 5 minute walk away. Other good pubs in neighbouring villages are: The Bell in Langford (booking strongly advised) The Five Alls in Filkins The Plough in Clanfield The Plough in Kelmscott The Lamb in Burford The Trout at Tadpole Bridge near Buckland There is an excellent Spanish Tapas bar/restaurant in Faringdon called La Bobina. One of our favourite’s! The Snooty Meehan on the A420 near Buckland does great Indian and Thai food. Plus many more we can recommend, please just ask. There are various take away restaurants (Chinese/Indian/Fish and Chips/Domino’s Pizzas) – please just ask for menus/details. The nearest town for supermarkets/chemist is Carterton (2 miles away). A little further away is Oxford, Cheltenham and Bicester Outlet Village. Nearest Cinema is in Witney Excellent local taxi company is Charlie’s (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) (the postcode is OX18 2QA however, you must state near Oakey Close as the SatNav tends to take you to the other end of the village!) Other things to note We have a working cocker spaniel called Binky - she is very friendly, great with other dogs and young children
