Netherton Farm is located on Fetternear Estate, and is a family-owned, working farm.
Nearby, you will see the beautifully refurbished, traditional granite steadings which were turned into Scotland's first rural business centre nearly 30 years ago.
At the heart of the estate are the ancient ruins of the 13th century Bishops of Aberdeen's Summer Palace, surrounded by silver birch woodlands, beech-lined avenues and over two miles of the meandering river Don - one of Aberdeenshire’s best, wild brown trout waters.
Outside the Lodge, the garden and lawn are accessed directly from the dining & sitting area and from the front door. You can enjoy a drink or have a picnic on the lawn beneath old, beautiful beech trees, or play some football or a game of pétanque! On a clear night, you may witness the most spectacular, awesome sunsets that we are privileged to see up here.
The village of Kemnay is only a three minute drive away, or 25 minute walk through Fetternear Estate, and boasts one of the North East’s best local golf courses along with local shops, a medical centre, chemist, fitness gym, pubs, a farm shop, take-aways and post office services.
we are situated on the famous ‘Castle Trail’ so you can visit stunning castles and stately homes in our region. There are more castles here than anywhere else in the UK!
Scotch Whisky Trail :
Glen Garioch is our local distillery located in Oldmeldrum, 20 minutes away.
Distillery tours must be booked on line, in advance, due to restrictions on numbers. We can recommend a local taxi firm which can take you to Glen Garioch or further afield, if you wish.
There are 60 excellent golf courses to choose from in the region, from Royal Aberdeen, the sixth oldest golf club in the world, to great courses like Kemnay GC, in our own village. If interested, we can arrange bookings on your behalf at our local course.
For keen hikers and walkers, there are great local walks locally and cycle trails including Bennachie (a pre-historic and extinct volcano, only a ten minute drive away) and, of course, the mountains and lochs of Upper Deeside on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park.
Superb salmon and trout fishing is available on the Rivers Dee, Don, and Deveron. River Don bookings on our own and other stretches can be made through us, or via the Fish Pal website.
Royal Deeside and Donside are proud to host and protect many of Scotland’s most iconic wildlife species with opportunities to see and photograph red deer, red squirrels, golden eagles and osprey. They are also home to renowned Highland Games which take place every summer and attract many thousands of visitors, including members of the royal family at Balmoral Castle,
