“One of our favorite places to watch a sunset, The Savannah National Wildlife Refuge is a breathtakingly beautiful place just north of Savannah. While the Refuge is massive and includes parts of Georgia and South Carolina, there is also a four mile loop that can be driven by car. You'll see all sorts of wildlife including lots of alligators, great blue herons, and seasonal bird life. Spottings have also included bald eagles, bobcats, coyotes, gopher tortoises, and snakes! ”

“The Wormsloe Historic Site, informally known as Wormsloe Plantation, is a state historic site. Visitors can interact with costumed interpreters during programs and events, and view a museum with artifacts unearthed at Wormsloe, as well as a short film about the site and the founding of Georgia.”

Lake
“Feed the ducks! In the neighborhood. Like so much of Savannah...you are welcomed to the park with a statue/public art. Great community park with gorgeous lake views. There is a walking path around the perimeter which gives you great views of the lake, park, etc. There are quite a few picnic shelters, including one large shelter for at least 50 people in center of park. Nice playground area for the little people. ”

“Closest square to the house - This quiet little square is secretly one of the best, with its Victorian gazebo and azalea flowers. It was one of Savannah’s last squares, designed in 1851, and received its name to honor Reverend George Whitfield, the founder of the oldest orphanage in the United States, the Bethesda Orphanage. It’s tucked into a neighborhood with beautiful houses and the gothic First Congregational Church, located on the northwest corner, which was built in 1895 for an African-American congregation. ”

“If you head west on Taylor, then turn right in a couple of blocks onto Habersham, the first square you come to is Troup. It's got lovely plantings, an armillary in the middle, and the Jingle Bells church.”

“Call ahead ( 912-897-1123) to see if shrimp is available. Plan on purchasing a minimum of 3 pounds of shrimp. You are purchasing the freshest wild Georgia shrimp imaginable, and right off the dock-- it's wholesale. Ask me how to get there, since it's a little tricky. ”
