Naunton, Cotswolds, Storbritannien

A stylish open plan barn conversion, with gorgeous uninterrupted Cotswold countryside views. It's in a private setting, perfect for couples or solo visitors. Situated on the edge of a beautiful village, it's an ideal base for enjoying all the Cotswolds has to offer, including great walking and cycling, lovely country pubs and famous cultural/sporting events in nearby Cheltenham (@10 miles). Alternatively you can just relax, enjoy the scenery and do nothing at all.
We are perched on top of a hill on the edge of a beautiful and typical Cotswold village in an area of outstanding natural beauty. At the top of our driveway, tucked away from the main house, is our barn. If you are looking for something a little bit different but with a modern feel, gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside and privacy, then this will be for you. Our pool house was converted from a small stone barn and, as the name suggests, there is an outdoor pool and one side of the building looks out on to this (though it's only open June-August). The other side looks out on to uninterrupted views of magnificent rolling hills, complete with sheep, pheasants and birds of prey. Outdoor furniture is available. Inside it's a little non-conventional, and is open plan, with a mezzanine bedroom area that has a huge gable-end window and an 11-rung wall-fixed ladder to get you up to it. Up there is a low-level double bed and a cargo net that pulls across the mezzanine opening for extra safety, if needed. NB We are very sorry but this won't be suitable for anyone who cannot ably and confidently use a ladder to go both up and down. There is a separate toilet with a small hand basin and a walk-in overhead shower (please note no bath) with a connecting changing area where you can also store/hang things out of the way. The main room is open plan and has a kitchen area with an island and seating for 6. It's well equipped and includes gas hob, electric oven, fridge with small freezer box, dishwasher, microwave, toaster and kettle (no washing machine/dryer). There is a huge, very comfy corner sofa for relaxing and there's a TV with an Amazon Firestick with a small selection of channel apps including Netflix and Amazon Prime. It has under floor heating throughout. Please note we do not have curtains on the massive sliding doors on each side, however it is private where the barn is situated with no buildings overlooking it. There are removable blackouts that can be used on the gable-end window on the mezzanine/bedroom level, for those who prefer less light when sleeping. Outside there's a lovely deck and beyond the pool is a private garden area leading on to a paddock. Wifi works very well, mobile not very well at all, though you can hook-up to the wifi and use wifi calling, if you have it and that works perfectly.
Our area is very beautiful, very green, very quiet and very rural. This makes for a relaxing and peaceful stay. It's also super-dark at night as we have no street lights. If you are looking for night-life you'd have to go to Cheltenham (15 mins drive, cab possible with a bit of pre-planning). Please note you will have to drive to get to a pub or shop.
  • Fantastisk utsikt och välisolerat på vintern.

Broadway is a beautiful village in the North Cotswolds, steeped in history and surrounded by stunning countryside. The village gets its name from the wide street, or broad way, that runs through the centre which was once the main road from Worcester to London. This attractive High Street is bordered with chestnut trees and honey coloured stone cottages dating from the 16th century and is one of the most picturesque villages of the Cotswolds. The broad way is thought to be especially wide because at one time there used to be streams running each side of the main drive. These streams were eventually hidden in underground pipes where they would emerge at 'dipping' points, but sadly they are now almost completely invisible. The village has artistic links with famous dwellers including J.M. Barrie, Mary Anderson and William Morris, who were drawn to the tranquillity of Broadway. It was here that Morris and John Ruskin pioneered the idea of the Arts and Crafts Movement which made its home in the area and went on to be an international movement. One of the iconic features of the village is Broadway Tower which was built in the late 18th century by the Earl of Coventry. It is said that the tower was erected so that the Countess could see if her Cotswold estate was visible from Croome Court in Worcestershire, which it was. The folly stands some 1,024 feet above sea level, making it the second highest point in the Cotswolds after Cleeve Hill. In fact, on a clear day, visitors are able to see 14 counties from the top! William Morris was so taken by the tower that he went on to establish the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings in 1877. Food & Drink Broadway has a number of places to eat and drink, with a range of cuisines and prices to suit most tastes and budgets. The list below is a sample of the options available: Russell's (www.russellsofbroadway.co.uk): Head Chef, Neil Clarke, serves modern British food in the award-winning restaurant, with local Vale of Evesham and Cotswold produce featuring throughout the daily-changing menus. The modern, airy dining room is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with friendly staff and laid-back service combining to create a relaxed and warm setting, day and night; The Lygon Arms (http://www.thehotelcollection.co.uk/hotels/the-lygon-arms-hotel-cotswolds/): A 17th century minstrel's gallery, a grand open fire and an imposing barrel-vaulted ceiling greet you as you enter The Great Hall, the main dining room of the famous Lygon Arms Hotel. A destination in its own right, people travel miles to enjoy the restaurant's 2 AA Rosettes for excellence sumptuous cuisine and warm friendly service of the highest quality. A few steps across the courtyard, Lukes Bistro offers a relaxing atmosphere serving traditional English cuisine with a contemporary twist, equally as imaginative and as fresh, using ingredients that are grown and reared locally, including a wide range of herbs and plums from the hotel's own orchards; The Potting Shed (www.dormyhouse.co.uk/potting-shed-restaurant): The Potting Shed is everything a Cotswold country dining pub should be. It's relaxed and inviting, with a large leather-and-oak bar and a rustic agenda. This is English pub grub as it ought to be: sticky ribs, great bangers, slow-cooked pork belly and fish that's been caught on our shores. Dress up and enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail, or dress down and bring the kids.

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

The Notgrove Estate is a 1500 acre family run working farm owned by Harry and Diana Acland. Set high up in the Cotswold Hills it has 400 acres of grassland in deep valleys and 100 acres of woodland and rolling arable fields. The farm has a mix of sheep, cattle and arable and has diversified with two horse livery yards and a holiday cottage business. In the last few years Harry and Diana have put in new foot and bridle paths and entered into a wildlife conservation scheme planting 200 acres of special plots planted with wild bird mixes, corn bunting mixes, pollen and nectar mixes for bees and beetle banks that promotes the preservation of our natural wild birds. The scenery changes with each season as does the pattern of farming; we have an abundance of lambs and calves in spring, harvest in summer, colourful autumn leaves and dramatic winters, often with snow.

St Stephen's Studio is in Tivoli, a popular area in the heart of Cheltenham. It is a self contained studio flat in a grade 2 listed building. Just a 10 min walk into the centre and 10 mins from the train station. An ideal base for Cheltenham festivals or the races. The flat is small but very modern and comfortable. We also have a rather unique Bluetooth fireplace which plays music and makes it warm and cosy!
St Stephen's Studio is suitable for 2 guests.
The flat is close to the town centre and also the train station. It is ideal for horse racing but especially convenient for festivals.

Welcome to Fairholme, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals. Fairholme is a wonderful Grade II listed property which sleeps four guests, in two elegant bedrooms, with a spacious family bathroom. Dating back to the 17th century, this Cotswold stone property has retained lovely character features including exposed beams, an exposed Cotswold stone chimney breast and a large fireplace in the living room with a roaring real fire. These period features have been complemented by stylish furnishings and modern facilities, including wireless internet access, a Freeview TV and a well-equipped kitchen. There is a pretty garden to the rear of the property and free on-street parking is available close by. Fairholme is located in the picturesque town of Northleach, an unspoilt town which boasts a number of independent shops, restaurants and pubs, including The Wheatsheaf Inn which is just a stone’s throw from the property itself. The town prospered during the Cotswold wool trade and this funded the impressive 15th century church of St Peter and St Paul. Every Wednesday, locals and tourists alike come to the town for the open-air market which showcases local produce, and the annual Northleach Charter Fair and Music Festival in June is a wonderful event for all ages. On the outskirts of the town sits Stowell Park, a private estate whose stunning gardens are open to the public during the months of May and June each year, offering fine views over the Coln Valley and displaying gorgeous flowers. Northleach is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with many cycle routes and walking trails on its doorstep to explore. It is also well placed for visiting the other lovely towns and villages of the Cotswolds, including Cirencester, Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water and Chedworth, home to the Roman Villa which is owned by the National Trust. Further afield destinations such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Bath are also within easy reach for day trips.

This in turn leads into the following ground floor rooms: Living room: This is a stunning room, with exposed Cotswold stone walls, a flagstone floor, oak beams, and a large inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove. There is a three-seater sofa and arm chair, plus a Freeview TV and DVD player, with well stocked book shelves offering a selection of games and DVDs; Dining area: Two steps lead up from the living room to the dining area, which is partially separated from the living room by the TV, which can be rotated to allow it to be viewed from either room. There is a summer house at the end of the garden, which is available to store bicycles. The cottage has an allocated parking space a short walk away and further on street parking is available in the town.
Set above the River Isbourne, Winchcombe is arguably the hidden jewel in the Cotswolds crown. The town became prosperous from its Abbey (one of the largest Benedictine monasteries in England), its wool trade and as a producer of tobacco. Although the Abbey has gone there is still much to see of historic Winchcombe and the wealth of the town is reflected in many of the buildings, as well as in the surrounding countryside. No visit to Winchcombe would be complete without seeing four of the most prestigious historical sites in the area. Sudeley Castle (home of Queen Katherine Parr up to her death in 1548), Hailes Abbey (a Cistercian House founded in 1246 and owned by English Heritage), Stanway House (a Jacobean manor house with a world-famous fountain) and Belas Knap (a Neolithic long barrow dating from approximately 3800 BC) all offer a fascinating insight into the life of our ancestors. Known as the walking capital of the Cotswolds, Winchcombe sits at the intersection of the Cotswold Way, the Gloucestershire Way, the Wardens Way, the Windrush Way and the new Winchcombe Way. Alternatively, the GWR Steam Railway provides a fantastic fun day out for the family, running from Toddington through Winchcombe to Cheltenham Racecourse. Winchcombe has a mouthwatering selection of top quality restaurants, a wine bar, pubs, tea shops and a contemporary delicatessen/coffee shop. So whether you want a quick snack or a leisurely meal you'll be spoilt for choice. With a vibrant Music & Arts Festival in May/June, a Country Show in August and a Christmas Festival in December, Winchcombe also has a busy cultural calendar. Food & Drink Winchcombe is fortunate to be blessed with a variety of places to eat and drink, with the following being just a selection of the options available: Restaurant 5 North Street (www.5northstreetrestaurant.co.uk): A small family run Michelin starred restaurant. The cooking at North Street brings together the elements of traditional British cooking with the more sophisticated ingredients and techniques of classic French cuisine; Wesley House (www.wesleyhouse.co.uk): Set in a 15th century Merchant's House, Wesley House's restaurant has been awarded an AA two star rosette and has developed a reputation for excellent food, elegant surroundings and exemplary service. The vibrant Wine Bar & Grill offers a lively atmosphere, with an extensive cellar and delicious dishes in a relaxed setting; Wine and Sausage at The White Hart Inn (http://wineandsausage.whitehartwinchcombe.co.uk): The White Hart Inn is a charming 16th Century inn, with the Wine & Sausage Restaurant at its heart. Open daily for breakfast, morning coffee & cakes, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and bar snacks.

Fantastisk hund promenerar runt i området.

Tack!
