No place is better than the Hotel Plaza e de Russie for providing guests the sensation of being at the centre of a marvel in which nature and art contribute in equal measure. Built in 1871 along the route of the Gran Tour, the Plaza e de Russie is the oldest hotel in Viareggio, its name being a tribute to the Russian nobility that usually spent long holidays on the beach in Versilia. Located on the promenade along the sea, the hotel is at the centre of the Art Nouveau area, which emerged in the early 1900s, a period in which Viareggio became an international showcase where the splendours of the worldly life combined with the artistic and literary fervour of the time. The city is enriched with beautiful palaces and rich shops, with the entire area being an authentic jewel of architecture to this day thanks to its historic premises.
