Guided tours or rent your own. One of the few kayak businesses still open due to COVID as their storefront is right on the estuary.
Where the river meets the ocean... row past historic Penny's Island and enjoy watching the local birds and California gray seals.
Bring your own kayak to the public dock in Jenner or rent from Watertrek. You can go solo or sign up for a tour. The birdlife is varied and a few seals will likely come for a curious peek.
Pictures are from Jack Journey, Journey Graphic. Goat Rock beach is just 3 minutes away by car, 20 minutes by foot and 10 minutes by kayak. Plan to spend time there at all times of the day. It is an experience worth taking advantage of.

“We highly recommend River's End Restaurant for a romantic dinner. Arrive a early and take in the amazing ocean view from their outside balcony while sipping on your beverage of choice. Their food is internationally influenced, and locally sourced. Most importantly, their Chef designs an amazing seasonal menu . Nestled between the Russian River and Highway 1, it's just a 20 minute drive from Guerneville. Reservations highly suggested.”

“A former Russian colony from 1812, the Fort Ross State Historic Park offers a bit of history on the California coast. In fact, the 4th graders at my kids’ school stay at Fort Ross after learning about Russian and Californian history. They pretend to be fishermen, cooks, guards, etc. to act out the roles that Russian settlers would have had at the fort. The park’s cliff-top 3200 acres include original wooden structures, an antique canon and the visitor center with interpretive presentations.”

“A starting point for walks along the cliff-top beach and scrambling by the rocks, stunning location for drinks and meals, and plenty of benches for enjoying the views. Dress up warm! For those used to climbing and with good safety sense for this coastline, ask Kerstin for a tip to get to a great vantage point right above the water...”
