Cape Point was discovered by Portuguese seafarer Bartholomeu Dias whom was the first to sail around the Cape in 1488. He gave it the name "Cabo Tormentoso or Cape of Storms". It offers scenic views; the most powerful lighthouse on the South African coast with a range of 63km built in 1857; a funicular (only one of its kind in the world) which will take you on a scenic ride to the site near the old Cape Point Lighthouse; Global Atmosphere Watch Station; Two Oceans Restaurant and Buffelsfontein Visitors centre with artifact displays and audiovisual presentations.
