Lots of snacks to choose from - from English style breakfast to salads, soups and middle eastern cakes. Helpful staff. Excellent Turkish coffee and a range of herb teas I love the outdoor eating area where you can watch life go by on the Royal Mile, and you can hire a hookah pipe if you like!

It's in a beautiful spot - at the edge of Arthur's Seat and Duddingston Pond which is teeming with geese and swans. The food is nice, there's a beer garden. Plus, it's definitely the oldest pub in Edinburgh and has the first ever skittles alley if you like skittles.

It's in the loveliest part of Leith, at the Shore on the water with boats outside, you can sit and watch the sun go down, or stay inside the cosy pub, or book a seat in the posher restaurant area. Great sea food, perfectly cooked fish, and in the bar area they serve the best battered haddock and chips in Edinburgh, in my opinion! There's often live music - local piano and guitar players.

Nice location and decor, in the Regent Terrace Gardens just five minutes from my flat. This is a pricy but quite special restaurant that's renowned for excellent, inventive cooking usually locally sourced or organic food. The seating is communal and the atmosphere quite lively

Sightseeing

It's a very touristy spot but for good reason - lovely architecture against the backdrop of Arthur's Seat and the dramatic cliffs. The interior is maintained in period-style, you can visit Mary Queen of Scot's bedroom, there's a pleasant cafe in the courtyard outside. The palace is just five minutes from my flat.

Parks & Nature

For those who love the outdoors Arthur's Seat is a must - it's the iconic volcanic hill that you can see from all over Edinburgh, There are cliffs and steep climbs for the fit and adventurous, or peaceful spots with lovely views next to the lochs, teeming with wildlife and surrounded by indiginous plants and trees. Just five minutes walk from my flat.

Dean Village is surely one of the prettiest spots in Edinburgh but few tourists know of it! You can walk as far as you like along the river from Stockbridge. It's a steep-sided and quite dramatic river valley, though the path is easy to walk on, and it's lined with ancient trees and gardens. Dean Village itself is lovely, peaceful, with some iconic medieval and Victorian buildings. Really nice for a walk when the weather's fair.

It's just ten minutes from my flat. Though it's quite a steep climb to the top the views are very worthwhile at any time of year. You can see the city all around you. There are several historical buildings of interest, also a cafe and gallery. Not recommended for late night strolls after dark as it can get a bit wild, very safe and touristy throughout the day though!

This gallery has an excellent collection, you could spend days exploring, but it's also in an excellent location, with a beautiful park and large cafe with outdoor area for sunny days. Over the road is the Dean Gallery, nearby is the lovely water of Leith walkway.

It's in a beautiful Georgian House on a leafy terrace, very peaceful. It's always beautifully curated, the owners know and truly love art. Most works are modern minimalist but sometimes there's a mix of different eras. This is one of my favourite galleries in Edinburgh, and it's just ten minutes from my flat.
