Offering high-quality cuisine with reimagined Hungarian and international treats, Klassz – located on Budapest’s Andrássy Avenue – is a long-established eatery where we can dine and wine amid flowery settings. Besides serving as a restaurant, Klassz also operates as one of Bortársaság’s wine shops, and here we can browse a selection of fine libations and buy bottles for takeaway, while from Monday to Friday, the restaurant’s culinary offer is complete with a two-course lunch menu. 1061 Budapest, Andrássy út 41. *** Good place for dinner, great food and wines. €€–€€€

The word Sáo哨 means thrush and twittering, since the Vietnamese often keep birds as pets, and so the name refers to a homely environment and togetherness. The Vietnamese-Chinese restaurant, run by three close friends, operates in this very spirit in Gozsdu, where they make everything from traditional recipes. The menu offers soups, noodles, rolls, desserts and Vietnamese coffee.,. At this place, a good atmosphere is just as important as the food: the guests often make acquaintance and have conversations with each other, or even with the chef. If you are looking for a real eating experience, definitely choose Sáo哨. *** Awesome interior design. Best place for Asian Quality food. €€-€€€

A Presto is hiding by the Hungarian State Opera, however, if you ever crave high-quality Italian courses, we definitely recommend you to find it, and don’t forget to spread some homemade garlic sauce on your dish. This sauce and the light gnocchi became our favorites, but the super thin pizzas and homemade pastas are all truly tasty. A Presto also does home delivery, but if you have some time, we recommend to pop in and stay awhile at this friendly hangout. ***Small place with some outdoor seating. More an eatery than a restaurant, but very delicious and reasonable prices.

The name of the restaurant (Gettó Gulyás) makes its culinary priorities clear - it features the heart of Magyar cuisine with staples like goulash, chicken paprikash, and beef stew. These Hungarian classics are updated with a small twist, like the baked curd cheese noodles rolled in bacon, that accompany the veal stew. The interior, with corrugated roofing sheet panels and a wall of hay, reflects above-average creativity, and stands in contrast to the neighborhood’s ubiquitous ruin-pub decor. Service is friendly but not intrusive. *** traditional hungarian great food in a cool contemporary atmosphere. €-€€

Két Szerencsen is an excellent choice for a breakfast, a lunch or a glass of wine with friends. It has a pleasant, intimate milieu where you can enjoy a glass, but it’s best with a filling Mediterranean dinner. You’ll find it near the Opera, in Pest’s Brodway, Nagymező Street. The Mediterranean interior is made cosy by the Andalusian lights and candles. They serve excellent tapas with both the Mediterranean and the Hungarian dishes. The place used to be a café, and the restaurant has preserved the traditions of that place as well. *** I prefer this place for an excellent longer breakfast with nice eggs and a great traditional apricot jam but lunch is very good as well. €-€€

According to the owner of Kiskovász Bakery, Péter Sábli, the secret to excellent bread is: flour, salt, water, and ‘matured’ yeast. The pastries are made according to ancient recipes in the wood-fired oven of a farmhouse in Vas county, and are brought to the bakery on Nagymező Street 36 corner O utca, where the palatable products made of clean, additive-free, and high-quality flour even entice people with gluten intolerance inside. Furthermore we find classic pastries, croissants, cocoa- and cinnamon rolls and sandwiches. ***Very friendly staff, valuable prices, good coffee. €

The Három Tarka Macska bakery on Terez Körut 22( 80 m from the apartment) quickly became a local favourite thanks to its French-style pastries prepared with sourdough and Norman butter. Now you can find their new location on Teréz körút, near Oktogon as well. The palatable baguettes, red wine-flavoured snacks, cocoa rolls and loaves are made by a French baker, and quickly sell out every day. However, you can always come early for a sandwich or an egg-based breakfast. Really good Breakfast Place.

Arts & Culture

Housed in the architecturally controversial Palace of Arts north of Rákóczi Bridge, the Ludwig Museum holds Hungary’s most important collection of international contemporary art. Works by Hungarian, American, Russian, German and French artists span the past half-century, while works by Central and Eastern European artists largely date from the 1990s. The museum's temporary exhibitions are invariably well received.

Shopping

The Hunyadi Market Hall radiates a pleasant atmosphere and it's listed as a national treasure. Its location is great, and you can watch the locals shopping and chatting. Be sure to taste and/or take home some of the different types of honey, bacon and sausages sold by farmers, and do not miss out the fresh vegetables or the liver paté. The peak time of the market is in the mornings of Fridays and Saturdays. You can also have breakfast in the Market Hall . Get some Langos(deep-fried local pastry) and a coffee from the coffee rank. You could also have breakfast at the pavillon caffé at the corner of the Hunyádi Park.

If you walk into the right wing of the Paris Department Store on Andrássy Avenue and step into the elevator, in a matter of seconds you'll be greeted by sunshine or sparkling city lights, and have Budapest at your feet. In the evening, you can enjoy excellent wines and beautiful sunsets here, while chilling to down-tempo tunes. There is no dress code to fear, you won't feel embarrassed in sneakers - 360 Bar promotes a free, urban spirit of living, which is underscored by the simple design of the highest rooftop bar of Budapest, where you can admire a 360 degree panorama of Budapest all summer long, accompanied by light drinks and an open kitchen..

When we first visited Pharma, we felt as if we were doing something illegal. A maximum of 8 people can comfortably fit into the small bar, the wall is decorated with a poster titled “Alcoholistic system”, and our first shot came in a “medication bottle” – the whole experience felt elusive. They mixed together formulas that did not seem to match or looked too extreme. They take a fresh coconut out of the fridge, cut a hole in it, and prepare drinks in that, or they mix the alcohol with strong black coffee and serve it from a siphon. We might not exaggerate by saying that Pharma is the most original place in Kazinczy Street.

Budapest has always been a hub of Jewish culture, so it comes as no surprise that the second largest synagogue of the world is found here. The Dohány Street Synagogue (Dohány utcai Zsinagóga) was built in 1859 in Moorish Revival Style. It seats 3000. This complex is not only a place of worship, but also hosts the Hungarian Jewish Museum. It lies in Dohány street, right off the Small Boulevard, as an entrance to the Jewish district. Dohány street carries serious Holocaust connotations, it was the border of the Budapest Ghetto during WWII and even today still remains the center of the Jewish community in Hungary. A three-year reconstruction, funded largely by the world famous Estée Lauder, who

The Hungarian House of Photography (Magyar Fotográfusok Háza), stands in Nagymező Street. Its main goal is to provide a platform for Hungarian, international, historical, and contemporary photo exhibitions. The Mai Manó Bookshop on the mezzanine floor functions as a photo gallery as well, where visitors can browse photography-themed books amid a unique atmosphere. The House of Terror (Terror Háza) is a museum and a monument at 60 Andrássy Avenue, at the former headquarters of the communist secret police (ÁVH). Its exhibitions commemorate the victims of the fascist and communist regimes of Hungary in the 20th century, including those detained, interrogated, tortured or killed in the building. The permanent exhibition portrays the country’s relationship with the Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union during the years of occupation and suppression by those powers. The landmark building of the Parliament building might be familiar even if you've never set foot in Budapest. This architectural masterpiece in Kossuth Square was designed by Imre Steindl in splendid neo-Gothic style. Today, it is the largest building in Hungary and the second largest parliament building in Europe. The idea of a new parliament building popped up after the unification of Óbuda, Buda and Pest in 1873; it finished and inaugurated in 1896, on the 1000th anniversary of the founding of Hungary. Thanks to the use of the finest materials, the entire building is a piece of art.
