Arts & Culture

Situated in the iconic Cape Malay Quarter, just next door to De Waterkant, the Bo Kaap is famous for its colourful cottages and steep cobbled streets. The Bo Kaap Museum is a must-visit for anyone wanting a deeper insight into the area. The museum is the last remnant of Walendorp - an early residence built in what would later become the Bo Kaap. The house was built somewhere between 1763 and 1768 and gives a fascinating glimpse into the life of a 19th Century Muslim family. The museum is currently in a transitional phase as it moves to become a social history museum. Two new displays have been finalised and more are in the works.
