The 800+ square feet log cabin, with its nostalgic charm, offers comfortable sleeping spaces. The main bedroom has two beds, a queen-size bed with a wood and metal headboard and footboard, and a full-size metal bed that’s been in our family since 1927. There’s a room AC unit that keeps everything comfortable during those East Texas summers.
Tucked away in a little room off the hall is a twin-size adjustable bed with memory foam, a writing desk, shelving and space to hang your belongings.
Behind the main bedroom are modern conveniences – a washer and dryer, as well as an iron and ironing board. Extra supplies are located on the cupboard. All linens, pillows, towels, and shower supplies are provided. The bathroom has a step-up shower and toilet with plenty of safety equipment securely attached, a full sink and mirror.
The kitchenette has a double sink, a full size microwave and refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, a hot plate with a few pots and pans, and eating utensils. The hanging lamp over the sinks can be turned on with a remote as you enter.
The beautiful antique dining table, its leather top covered with plexiglass for protection, is surrounded by 4 comfortable chairs.
A large couch with a matching love seat surrounds a steam truck brought over from Germany in 1910. The trunk serves as coffee table and is protected by a glass top.
There’s plenty of entertaining reading material of all kinds, with some focusing on the history and culture of the immediate area. Local artifacts are displayed throughout the log cabin.
Décor and vibe are warm and inviting throughout, with vintage pieces creating nostalgic and positive emotional appeal, no matter whether it personally brings back decades of childhood or experience, or wistful imaginings.
You might want to have that morning coffee outside, sitting under the pines or on the covered front porch. You also have your own fire pit & charcoal grill in your shared fenced yard You may bring your own firewood or purchase a small stack from the hosts.
Relax on the front porch or ask for a tour of our working farm. Enjoy the perfect view of the setting sun over the tops of the pines. It will take your breath away! Plan to get your steps in and maybe some culture. Or simply relax by the outdoor fire pit and watch the flames crackle and pop.
If you’re hankering for Old West adventure, there’s plenty here.
East Texas, considered the westernmost part of the Deep South, enjoys influences from Cajun and African-American Southerners who settled mid-19th century. Hawkins boasts many Cajun and BBQ restaurants a few minutes away.
You’ll learn all about that and more in our Guest Book, available to you as you enter.
We’re looking forward to having you in our “Little Bit of Heaven”!
Although our property address is Hawkins, TX, in Wood County, we’re about 8 miles north of the town of 1278, with an area of 2.30 miles and an elevation of 406 feet. About 13 miles east is Mineola. Texas is on the Central Time Zone.
The road in front of our property is Farm to Market 14, which does have light traffic 24/7, yet we hardly hear it since the log cabin sits more than 50 yards back. A Subway sandwich shop is 4 miles away, right next to the Trinity Mother Frances Clinic, open from 7am-5pm weekdays. Across the street is a great little donut shop, and opening soon, is a diner set to serve standard American fare. Brookshire’s is just 7 miles away if you forget groceries.
Lake Hawkins, and the RV Park, only about 5 miles away, is a very clear, spring-fed lake with beautiful winding roads and hills - perfect for walking, bicycling or motorcycling.
