Food scene

This brassiere is well worth a visit. Good food and a good atmosphere and if you go later in the evening you may be lucky enough to get a great view of a beautiful sunset. I recommend booking ahead as it gets busy and to ensure that you get a table. Dogs are allowed outside and with a bit of pleading they have allowed you to take them inside too!

Previous guests have recommended this as a great place to eat, so definitely worth a visit. You could walk there from the flat but it is about 1.5 miles away at the end of Birchington high street.

What a lovely cafe to grab a coffee or breakfast served until 3pm! They also serve alcohol and do evening meals. Really friendly staff and the food is great and reasonably priced. They allow dogs in too so a perfect place to stop after a nice long walk.

Dreamland and a nice beach!

What to do in Margate.
You can get the 34 bus to Margate which stops at the bus stop just at the end of Walker Lane in Minnis Road. It’s about 200m from the flat. An adult return costs just over £4 and buses come every 20 mins or so. Margate beach is lovely and is more of your typical seaside place with amusement arcades and much more lively than Minnis Bay. Dreamland is an iconic funfair with a wooden roller coaster and is worth a visit. There are also numerous bars and places to eat scattered around near the pier/ harbour area. The Turner gallery is free but you need to book tickets but you can do this on the day you want to visit.

Lovely independent cinema.
Such a beautiful building, the cinema is set in what was the old town hall and is not far from the flat. Tickets are cheap too! Adults £3.50! Good place to go on a rainy day!

Great place to visit on a rainy day. You can book tours on line and I strongly recommend that you do so in advance as places fill up so quickly. The tour is a guided one through the tunnels and deep shelters with lots of interesting storylines about how the tunnels came to be and their use over the years. Thoroughly recommend a visit, you won’t be disappointed.

Beach and restaurants

Golden sand of Viking Bay
Only 11 minutes by train from Birchington on sea train station Broadstairs is a largely unspoilt coastal town. It was a favourite of Charles Dickens and you can see Bleak House up on the cliff side from the harbour wall. There are numerous places to eat and drink and the beach is beautiful and clean! Much quieter than Margate but more refined. A traditional seaside that has retained its charm. There are also some independent shops selling beach themed items and clothing.

Lovely clean sandy beach. Cafe and toilets and free parking along the esplanade at the top- Park Road. Strongly recommend you park here as price to park in Broadstairs is ridiculously expensive. You can walk along the beach or if the tide is in along the coastal path above the beach , into Broadstairs where you will find numerous cafes, bars and restaurants.
