This hill top town just 25 min east of Lucca is surrounded by vineyards and has some great wineries to visit and taste wine. The town itself is very small, and was founded by Charlesmagne. It has a wine tasting street festival in early September.

This is a wine shop with an Aladin's cave of wine cellars underneath it. The shop itself is small but they have a wonderful selection of the best wines and you can book wine tastings here. On a summer night, they have 3 or 4 tables outside where they give you 3 bottles of wine to try as a group, with a plate of cheeses, fruit and bread and they explain the background for each wine as they serve it.

This is an artistic community with street art which is basically only 3 parallel streets. It has fantastic unique clothing shops, cafe' culture with wonderful restaurants, and great bars and cafe's on the main piazza. Only 30 min drive from Lucca towards the coast.

This is a medieval town halfway between Lucca and Florence and is a fun nightlife town with good restaurants and bars. It has a nice "Siena"-type atmosphere. It has an event on St Jacob's Day around July 20th where there is horse racing between the 4 contrade of the town. July also sees the Pistoia Blues Festival in the main square which has a few great bands playing, one night only.
