Outside of the great chain restaurants, there are many smaller, local eateries and groceries within 10 miles of the Cottages. Some of our favorites are listed.
Within a mile's walk, the location is on the waterfront of Galveston Bay. There is an adult's only upstairs bar with great views and good food. Live music. The weekend brunch is great on the outside patios.

Wholesome food with crawfish in season now. Less than a mile up to 146 from the cottage, but on a busy side of the road. When in Texas you've got to try chicken fried steak, and theirs is good.

Looks scary and rundown on the outside, and it's dark and over decorated on the inside, so it's just right for a kick back place to have a drink and listen to good music. It's featured in Houston's Best Dive Bars magazine. Decent English Pub fare too.

Ole! For a hearty, Tex-Mex "mexican" food place, this is it close to home. 1 mile through the back streets gets you to the open patio or air-conditioning inside. Good all the time, but lunch is much easier to get seated. There's a second location on I45 that's twice the size and just as good .

4001 TX-146Ole! For a hearty, Tex-Mex "mexican" food place, this is it close to home. 1 mile through the back streets gets you to the open patio or air-conditioning inside. Good all the time, but lunch is much easier to get seated. There's a second location on I45 that's twice the size and just as good .
It's a bit of a drive if you consider 12 minutes long, but for good seafood, this is a real go to by the Bay. Redfish and Red Snapper are my favorite as I look out to the water. If you bring your fresh catch, they'll cook it however you wish.

Smoked grilled oysters are their claim to fame and their prices are going up, but worth the price if you love oysters. Other food on the menu like burgers and chicken fried steak are big hits too. Only about 8 minutes away.

Small and local, this is an overlooked place for good Cajun spiced seafood. Pricing is generally under $10 which really beats the prices at the Kemah Boardwalk chains. You'll travel about 9 minutes to this place, and through League City,Kemah, and Clear Lake Shores which all have local police! Give it a try.

One of the few Kemah Boardwalk area restaurants I'll fight traffic to get to when I want Greek food. I like lunch specials here with a glass of wine. And they've got Spanakopita! If you prefer American fare, they have a steak night during the week,and Sunday brunch. Good choice when you've burned out from seafood and Mexican food.

H-E-B Grocery and Pharmacy is my go to shopping center. Organics, fresh cut meats and fish, vegetable selection, deli, bakery, wine and beer, and personal products are always well stocked. Prices are always competitive with the Kroger across the road.

Started in Lake Jackson a ways from where we are, Buc-ee's has expanded to an iconic car/truck stop across Texas and into other states. This location is one of the first expansions, and offers a mini-version of sandwiches, tacos, and other branded products by the franchise. Get your gas and step inside to say you've been there. The largest Buc-ee's is in Katy, 50 miles across Houston on the way to San Antonio.
