Great local farm shop in Yealmpton which is about 10 minutes in the car. It has a good range of fruit and veg, butcher, lots of organic produce and interesting foods as well as a good deli for takeway pies/quiches.

On the other side of the river is the charming village of Noss Mayo. Home to two pubs it is also the place to set off on the circular coastal walk taking in the spectacular cliff-top views. As you walk through the wooded road out towards the headland you will be walking alongside the River Yealm following it down to the Pool where yachts are moored in the deep water harbour. You continue out towards the mouth of the River and if you fancy a swim you can drop down on the path to Cellars Beach which is a popular local spot. Continuing along the coast path you reach the headland with the views of the river entrance, the Mew Stone island and across to Wembury and beyond....truly beautiful!

There is a large car park which you have to pay for from April-October (£5) and then it’s a short walk down to the beach. Either head for the larger beach at the bottom of the hill where you can walk along the vast sands at low tide or through the gate and down to the smaller beach where you can swim and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Remember to check the tide times as there is not a lot of beach at higher tide!

There is a large car park which you have to pay for from April-October (£5) and then it’s a short walk down to the beach. Either head for the larger beach at the bottom of the hill where you can walk along the vast sands at low tide or through the gate and down to the smaller beach where you can swim and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Remember to check the tide times as there is not a lot of beach at higher tide!

What clothes you’ll need to bring!
There are lots of great walks locally so bring your walking boots or wellies as it can be muddy if it’s been wet! You may want to bring your trunks if you’re planning on a dip in the sea or for the less brave, perhaps a wetsuit may be needed! As with all English holidays the weather can be unpredictable so a waterproof coat is perhaps advisable but hopefully you’ll be lucky and all you’ll need are shorts, t-Shirts and your sunglasses!

You have to try the pasties from Trevor the butcher just up the hill from the cottage...they are the best! You may need to get there early at the weekend as he can sell out by lunchtime!

Fresh baked bread at the Post Office
On Saturday mornings you can get fresh bread and pastries from the Post Office. The sour dough is amazing as are the pain au chocolats!

Paddle Board Hire
If you would like to try paddle boarding then get in contact with Chloe at Swell Hunter on 07738 447913. They hire paddle boards and will bring it down to the slipway in front of the cottage for you to head out. If you hire one for a few days, you can keep it in the garden at the cottage when not in use. Remember to check the tides for best time to use it!
