Spending quality time at the Playa de Las Canteras. It is a great beach for swimming, sun bathing, taking beach walks or having a drink or a meal at the numerous restaurants and various eateries lining alongside the superb beach promenade. It is so brilliant to see enough toilets and showers (completely free of charge) laid throughout the beach

Following the Playa de las Canteras promenade to the north, you come to La Isleta, a fishing district located at the access to a small peninsula of the same name. This neighborhood, built on steep terrain, is characterized by its narrow streets, old shops and bustling bars. One of the cores of the neighborhood is the Plaza de Manuel Becerra, with the lighthouse on one side and access to port facilities on the other. To the south of the small peninsula is the Castillo de la Luz, the oldest fortification on the island.

Called the the neighborhood of the pained houses. The striking colors San Juan's and San José's houses is because in its origin the locals used the paint of boats left over on the Port "Muelle de la Luz. From Vegueta to reach the top of the San Juan cliff, it is necessary to meander about 45 alleys. The first urban center is configured around the square of San Antonio Abad, continuing towards Triana street. The initial constructions are located inside the defensive system, consolidated at the end of the 16th century (1576-1584) with the construction of two walls to the north and another to the south of the city. Until the seventeenth century, the city grew to "inside wall", It means, the population increases and density of buildings but this does not grow in perimeter. The walls were a defense for the city, but in the seventeenth century after the attack and destruction by Van der Does (sailer, military and Dutch pirate June 1599), begins the reconstruction of the city, an important social discrimination, the rich who surround the city (San Juan and Risco de San Nicolás) become important because the "closeness" of the city became in vigilance points, protection, refuge and easy evacuation towards the interior of the island. Therefore, the hill was ocupetaed by “cave dweller”because they taked advantage of the natural caves and later it becomes humble houses and low houses. And in San José, in the part of the population that, in addition to the small attacks suffered by the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, took refuge "outside walls", sheltered by the high walls and hills.

Excellent small restaurant. Service is friendly and helpful, with some great recommendations. The goat cheese salad starter has a good balance of flavors and textures. The octopus is very well prepared, and the goat stew was very good as well. Crema Catalana with Chantilly for dessert hit the spot, and the local honey rum chaser is wonderful! Good price!
