The Weald & Downland Living Museum – a hidden gem in the South East, quintessentially British in a picture perfect setting. We are a museum for those who want to see, touch and even smell what life was really like for people living in years gone by. Whether you are 5 or 95 there is something for everyone! Can't recommend this highly enough. Tons of space to explore, walk, things to see and do. The Repair Shop is filmed here and you may get to see filming taking place. Watch milling taking place in the old Lurgashall Mill and take home some of the freshly milled flour. Sample foods of the Tudor period and learn how they were made. Look out for museum special events taking place throughout the year. Excellent day out and great value for money.

Gorgeous, privately owned golden sand beach within a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The sloping sandy beach is lined with multi coloured beach huts and dunes. Access is fairly easy over the sand dunes but there is limited disabled access. The beach faces the Solent and the Isle of Wight. It’s an ideal beach for sunbathing, swimming and paddling. The water remains quite shallow for some way out and makes swimming for all levels possible. Although largely undeveloped there are facilities include toilets, showers, parking and a café. There are lifeguards in summer. As the tide retreats it leaves shallow lagoons of warm water - perfect for smaller children to splash and play. Around 50 minutes from The Barn.

Parham House has been a cherished family home since its foundation stone was first laid during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I in 1577. The Hon. Clive and Alicia Pearson bought the Estate in 1922 ,great grandparents of the current owner Lady Emma Barnard. Over the next 40 years, they restored the House with great sensitivity and care, filling it with interesting and beautiful things. They opened Parham, with its lovely Walled Garden and Pleasure Grounds, to visitors in 1948, simply because they very much wanted to share it with others. Parham is now owned by a Charitable Trust, and Lady Emma Barnard has lived there with her husband and sons since 1994. Parham's tranquillity and beauty have changed little over the centuries. Food scene

The Horse Guards Inn is a 350 year old pub in the tiny village of Tillington. With rolling views down the Rother Valley, the Horse Guards got its name in the 1840's, when part the household cavalry would frequent the Inn, while their horses rested on grass in the grounds of the Petworth Estate under the watchful eye of Lord Egremont. The pub is relaxed, friendly and informal with wooden tables and chairs, oak beams and stripped floorboards. In winter you can roast chestnuts foraged from Petworth Park on one of the open log fires, play board games at the bar and forget about outside with a warm glass of spiced cider. On sunnier days, enjoy the hidden garden slumped in deck chairs or on straw-bale seats or have lunch at shaded tables on benches covered with sheepskins, eating beside the herbs and vegetables you’ll find on your plate. 6 minutes away by car or a 40 minute walk through the woodland following one of our own walking maps.
