Pubs & Grub in the Area

Plenty of outdoor seating for sunshine drinks, both in their own private courtyard out back, or on-street at the front for people watching. Also has a large but warm interior serving good pub food - only a few steps round the corner, for ease, when tired bodies are calling to be fed and watered.

Big ol' beer garden here which is lovely in the summer - the kind of place you'll sip on an Aperol spritz or a Pimm's. Very child & family friendly with its own playground in the garden (that's how big it is), and serving food daily.

Kofra is one of the many great coffee shops in Norwich with branches dotted all over. What sets Kofra apart is its forays into territory outside of coffee however (this takes nothing away from the deliciousness of their brews though...). They sell other tasty gems like natural wines and even hold vinyl record evenings in some branches. The Onley Street cafe is perfect for morning coffee too - sitting outside, watching the world wake up and feeling the sun getting warmer and warmer.

One of the best pubs on Unthank Road, perfect blend of cosy and fun. Locals bring their dogs who sit in front of the fire, students come for the late night closing times and everyone else is welcome to settle down inside or sit amongst the buzz of the street outside.

You wouldn't be blamed for feeling a bit confused after walking out of Blue Joanna - they play old blues and jazz records, often have live music of a similar variety, but then serve you street food like road map across Asia and Europe. It's all brought together by a really warm atmosphere though, so you won't leave feeling disappointed.

About a 15 minute walk from Onley Street is this restaurant run by two best friends with an emphasis on a shared eating experience - very relaxed place and always interesting food comes out of the kitchen.

The best roast dinner in Norwich, only available on Sundays of course and worth booking in advance. Also an Irish pub, which unlike most Irish pubs in England, serves a delicious pint of Guinness - definitely worth a visit if you're visiting over a weekend.

Beautiful gardens not too far from Onley/Unthank Road, especially lush in the summer. Great if you fancy eating your lunch solo in peace, or reading a book or simply chilling in the greenery.

Food in the City

Norwich City Centre is a great place for food and here are just a few favourites to be found
One of the best restaurants in Norwich for sure! Beautiful food, Italian but with modern and inventive variety. The staff are lovely, always very welcoming and quick to offer a glass of wine, a bottle if you fancy... You can order everything off the menu or keep it cheaper and eat lightly, but it's always going to be delicious. Love this place.

Yard and Brick Pizza are sisters and are as good as each other. The best thing about Yard isn't the pasta dishes that seem to have come straight from Nonna's kitchen, or the extensive wine and cocktail list, or the tiramisu thats the size of your face which you can't stop eating despite the risk of diabetes... but that fact that you can treat yourself to these things without walking away feeling that your stomach has gotten considerably bigger but your wallet, sadly, has gotten considerably smaller, Great value.

Brick is a Norwich staple - you won't leave the crusts of this pizza. Everything is made in house including their delicious dough and with quite a few varieties, you can go classic or more adventurous but it'll always be good. Sat directly next to and working with The Sir Garnet pub, watch them bring your steaming hot pizza while you enjoy a cold one in the sun outside the pub.

One for the carnivores but some of the best food in the city - everything cooked in an expansive and openly sighted kitchen, all over flames. That's not to say it's a one-trick-pony though, where outside of the locally sourced meat and fish, the extensive smaller plates and snacks on the menu are often curious but always exciting and delicious.

Another of Norwich's best restaurants, headed by chef Richard Bainbridge who has previously worked in some of the countries best restaurants and has appeared on the BBC's 'Great British Menu' on multiple occasions. Featured in the Michelin guide, this fine dining restaurant is unfussy, relying on the region's store cupboard to produce some of the city's best food.

The Sir Garnet is a great pub, outside drinking and always busy, perfect for warmer months. It doesn't serve it's own food, but does host Hatake Ramen Club on Wednesdays and Thursdays where you can simply turn up and eat or can pre-order by dm'ing them on Instagram (worth doing). It's not just your standard Tonkotsu here though where every week the menu changes with new and interesting varieties of ramen. Alongside this, Ninnie Lear in the kitchen rustles up top gyoza, fried chicken, crispy potatoes... all the tasty odd bits that make up a good feast.
