Skull Tower (Ћеле Кула-Ćele Kula) is unique place on Earth and very important site of Serbian glorious past. It represents a chapel with an inside tower composed of human skulls! Those are heads of Serbian soldiers who died in famous Battle of Čegar in 1809, when Serbian leader Stevan Sinđelić at the critical moment of the battle, fired his pistol into a powder magazine and blew everybody to air, killing himself, Serbian troops and much more Turkish soldiers. Turkish commander of the city ordered construction of Skull Tower with the purpose to terrify Serbs and prevent future rebellions. It had quite opposite effect- it motivated Serbian people to fight stronger for liberty and independence from Ottoman Empire, and has been showing for two centuries what is their price! This amazing monument is one of the most famous Serbian sights, so every visitor to Niš should definitely come and visit Skull Tower!

The biggest park of Niš is great place if you want to have some peace, surrounded with many trees and really fresh air. Bubanj (Бубањ) is also place of history, because in WWII German Nazis used to execute citizens of Niš at this place, which used to be just an empty filed on the hill back then. That is memorized with the monument representing three fists, as symbol of resistance to fascism. After WWII it was planted with trees, so know has more peaceful purpose: it's ideal place for picnic, jogging, escaping city noise and some cultural events.
