Food Scene

This quaint, historic restaurant is a fun stop for breakfast or lunch. a limited menu (try the homemade chicken pot pie!) is also available for dinner. There are games to play, a great view of arriving and departing trains, and be sure to ask your server to show you the creek that runs under the floor of the restaurant! (There is a glass viewing portal in the floor - you haven't seen anything like it! There is also community trivia on Friday nights!

The shelves of this little bakery are full of fresh-baked goodies of all sorts, and they are all good! The cinnamon rolls are a musty-try. The owner is usually in the shop, and is always willing to share tips and tricks about baking.

This may be the best culinary surprise of your visit! Cafe Maddalena is a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant, with an ever-changing menu that always provides delectable choices for dinner, after a long day of skiing, fishing, shopping, or just watching the river run by. The fare here rivals restaurants from San Francisco, Sacramento, Portland and beyond - don't miss it! The restaurant is only open for dinner (Thurs - Sun 5pm - 10pm). Pricing is moderate, but a great value for the quality of the food served - you won't be disappointed. Walk-ins are welcome but there are a limited number of tables so calling ahead for reservations is a good idea. www.cafemaddalena.com

Another wonderful and unexpected surprise restaurant is Penny's diner. Tucked away and not heavily advertised, this 50's-style coffee shop is immaculate, bright and the staff are super-friendly. This is a real favorite among locals. The most amazing thing is that in a town where every other restaurant is closed by 10pm, Penny's is open 24 hours! Sporting typical road house coffee shop menu, the food is affordable, reliable and tasty. (Try the wonderful milkshakes they are made on 50's-style milkshake blenders, and you get the extra in a metal cup, just like the old days!)

What started as a small artisan coffee roaster and delivery service in the city of Redding, CA, has matured into one of Northern California’s premier destination eateries. Although coffee is still roasted on site in small batches Yaks on the 5’s gourmet burgers, craft beers, and world famous sticky buns with a caramel and Baileys and bourbon sauce have help make this a must stop for I-5 travelers and locals alike. Recently named by Yelp as one of the top 100 food destinations in the nation we invite you to come and taste what homemade from scratch really means…:) Our goal is that you would taste delicious for the first time in every bite. https://youtu.be/xlgb8KMJRjY
