The Elafiti islands are beautiful three island to the west of Dubrovnik rich with history and beautiful beaches. You can book a three island cruise, it is a whole day trip, spending some hours on each island with lunch on the boat. There are many agencies that organise this kind of trip. Or you can also go on your own but then you would have to choose one island because the boats don’t go so often. If you are interested in a sand beach than you should go to island of Lopud, it is the middle one of the three Elafiti islands.

The island of Mljet is a national park in its western part known for its beautiful Mediterranean vegetation and two lakes. It is also rich in cultural heritage, the most prominent example being the complex of the 12th century Benedictine monastery. The monastery is located on a small island in the middle of the Great Lake. Very popular is also the great sand beach in Saplunara, on the very east end of the island. Since the island is a bit further away I would recommend to go there for 2 days because the ride would be long both ways.
