Sightseeing

"NORTH END" Stroll the narrow and winding streets, stop at a coffe for a cappuccino, listen to the buzz and hubbub all around you. Immerse yourself in the many sights, sounds and aromas of this little part of Italy in Boston. Eat magnificent food in any of the amazing authentic restaurants (usually by reservation) this neighborhood in Boston has to offer. After eating like royalty don't forget to stop by Mike's Pastry (YES! do the line) and order the Florentine Cannolli."

'HARVARD UNIVERSITY" Founded in 1636, Harvard is America's oldest collage. It has eight graduates who went on to be US presidents, not to mention dozens of Nobel laureates. The geographic heart of Harvard is Harvard Yard. Free historical tours of Harvard Yard depart from the Smith Campus Center. Flanking Johnston Gate are the two oldest buildings on campus. North in Harvard hall, which dates to 1766 and originally housed the library. The focal point of the Yard is the John Harvard statue, where every Harvard hopeful has a photo taken (and touches the statue's shiny shoe for good luck)"

"COPLEY SQUARE" Here you'll find a cluster of handsome historic buildings, including the ornate French-Romanesque Trinity Church, the masterwork of architecture HH Richardson. Across the street, the classic Boston Public Library, America's first municipal library, lends credence to Boston's reputation as the "Athens of America". Pick up a self-guided tour brochure and wander around, noting gems like the murals by John Singer Sargent and sculpture by Augustus Saint-Gaudens."

"FREEDOM TRAIL" For a sampler of Boston's revolutionary sights, follow the red-brick road. It leads 2.5 miles through the center of Boston, from Boston Common to the Bunker Hill Monument, and traces the events leading up to and following the War for Independence. The Freedom Trail is well marked and easy to follow on your own. Otherwise, there are plenty of tours that follow this trail, including the National Park Service's free option."

Entertainment & Activities

"FENWAY PARK" Watch the Red Sox at Fenway Park, the nation's oldest and most storied ballpark. There are sometimes game-day cheaper tickets on sale starting 90 minutes before the opening pitch. Head to Gate E on Lansdowne St; arrive early (not earlier than five hours before game time) and be prepared to enter the ballpark as soon as you purchase your tickets. Otherwise, you can always get tickets in advance from online vendors or on game-day from scalpers around Kenmore Square. If the Sox are doing well, expect to pay two times the face value (less if you want to wait until after the game starts)."

Parks & Nature

"PUBLIC GARDEN" The Public Garden is a 24-acre botanical oasis of Victorian flowerbeds, verdant grass and weeping willow trees shading a tranquil lagoon. The old-fashioned pedal-powered Swan Boats have been delighting children's for generations. Until it was filled in the early 19th century, The Public Garden was (like Back Bay) a tidal salt marsh. Now, at any time of the year, it is an island of loveliness, awash with seasonal blooms, gold-toned leaves or untrammeled snow."
