ity Mall Nyali (formerly known as The Nyali Mall) is Mombasa's first truly ultra modern shopping mall and leisure centre. The mall opened in December 2012 and has become the most popular and busiest shopping outlet in the North Coast. City Mall Nyali is Mombasa's premier shopping mall[citation needed] and has elevated the retail landscape of the Kenyan Coast. The mall caters for the needs of a fast expanding middle class income group residing in the surrounding areas and for tourists staying in the numerous nearby hotels and apartments. The mall has seven floors – these include two lower basement parking floors and four shopping and leisure floors above ground with retail units, banking halls, fast food stalls, restaurants and cafes. All floors are served with elevators, with the shopping and leisure floors having escalators. Parking is provided at City Mall Nyali. The two lower basement floors contain 200 parking spaces. The ground floor parking has a further 200 parking spaces to ensure that traffic moves in and around the complex and with minimal disruption to all visitors. The ground floor mainly houses retail units and café's, and connects to the existing Nakumatt Nyali complex, merging the new and old mall together as one shopping mall.
