The Chepstow Mill is a century and a half old Grist mill on a private 8 acre pond with a one-bedroom miller's cottage. Enjoy the incredible mill space filled with hammocks, ping pong table, darts and more - take a nap over the rushing water running under the mill, or relax on the incredible 800 sqft deck off the miller's cottage over-looking your pond: a row boat is included!
When you book a stay at the historic Chepstow mill and cottage you have full access to the cottage, the mill, and the pond.
The one bedroom cottage is a four-season dream over-looking the pond. Full modern kitchen (and outdoor bbq), modern three piece bathroom, sunny bedroom and casual living space, all in my signature style that mixes vintage and modern to create a comfortable, familiar retreat.
A few steps away, and connected by a deck and walkway over the water is the Chepstow mill, built in 1867. Inside the mill you’ll find spaces to relax, dine, play and sleep if you have extra guests. There is no plumbing or heating/cooling in the mill, and so, sleeping arrangements are flexible: There is a 3” foam queen mattress that can be brought to the cottage’s living room floor if you’d all rather camp out in the cottage, as well as a blow up mattress. On the flip side, the comfortable vintage bamboo sectional is a great space to get some shut-eye if everyone wants the experience the mill!
Additionally, the cottage has a concrete pad and 220v power for an RV.
There’s a row boat for exploring the pond which is alive with activity (get a close-up on it all with the binoculars provided). A snapping turtle, a large blue heron, and several families of geese call it home. You can fish and paddle in the summer, and skate on it in the winter. The pond is environmentally protected, and changes with the seasons. It will fill with wild grasses by late summer and you’ll be entertained by an incredible chorus of bullfrogs.
On the deck you’ll find Muskoka chairs, a bar-height dining table to enhance the view over the railing, as well as a couple of loungers and an umbrella. There’s also a huge bbq, and a kiddie pool that makes an excellent place to dunk your feet with a drink in hand!
There are also a couple of chairs on the porch of the mill which take you back in time.
Chepstow is a tiny community in Ontario, and the mill is at the core of its history. The mill and cottage sit just off the main road in town, neighbouring the beautiful Chepstow Inn and further up the road, the church.
There are several unique towns within 25mins or less of the mill - In Paisley you can rent kayaks or canoes and explore the Saugeen River (the mill pond connects!). Walkerton has incredible trails; the coastal towns of Lake Huron like port Elgin and kincardine offer unparalleled beaches and dining. Mildmay has a fantastic pool, and every town has an antique store worth pillaging!
