Amman is a city full of secrets with hidden gems around every corner and a fascinating historical past. We will meet in front of Hashem restaurant and from there on we will go have tea at the al Duke office, the oldest building in the city open for visitors.
After that we will walk to the citadel placed on one of the seven hills that Amman was built on, using a shortcut only locals know about. On the way, I will take you to the best falafel place in the city, one that TripAdvisor doesn’t even know about, and get sandwiches to go.
The citadel offers monuments such as the temple of Hercules, an Umayyad palace and a Byzantine church. Here we can enjoy an Instagram-worthy view of Amman and then head down to the Roman amphitheater. From there, the souqs are nearby if you would like to see the local markets.
After that, I would like to invite you to a cup of coffee or tea at the oldest café in Jordan and maybe smoke shisha as well. I can teach you some local card games or we can talk about politics or the history of Jordan.
Then when we are hungry, I will take you to the best restaurant in town, al-Quds, where we can eat Jordanian local dishes, and then the best way of ending the tour is by heading to the oldest knafeh shop in Jordan, where we can eat the traditional Jordanian sweet.
