Welcome to "Cabin on Swede Hill". Our family has farmed this land since 1871. My great grandparents, Swan and Johanna Johnson immigrated to America in the 1860's, found this land which was similar to Sweden. They raised their family here. Approximately 65 Swedish families settled in this community, became to be know as the "Swede Hills". We just received the Hoosier Homestead Award from Indiana celebrating the Sesquicentennial Award. Our large front deck overlooks state land giving a beautiful, private view out of our large windows. Our cozy cabin has 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms with fun, thoughtful touches for your family including video game consoles, movies, books, a LOT of games, a pool/ping pong table, 2 fire pits, and more! Charming Country Cottage

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. "Barn" turned into a guesthouse on 4 acres of owners residential property where you will enjoy peace and quiet, take a walk on trails through 2 acres of woods, take a short drive to Lake Michigan or the Indiana Dunes National Park or just sit inside at an electric fireplace. We are located 5.9 miles (approximately 12 minutes) from the Dunes National Park. Second STR available on same property that also sleeps 5 people if you have a group!

Close to many sites of interest: Lake Michigan beach - 15 minutes away, downtown Chicago - 1 hour drive (or take the train), Indiana Dunes State Park/National Lake Shore - half hour drive, Valparaiso University - 30 minutes, Notre Dame - 1 hour. Calming atmosphere. Listen to the Mourning Doves after dawn and the owls at night as you sit around the fire bowl. Walk the tree covered bike trail. Grocery stores, pharmacies, shopping plazas and movie theater within 1 mile of your lodging.

The House Near The Lakes

Relax with the beautiful nature surroundings at this peaceful place to stay. Enjoy your visit to NWI at this beautiful cottage with vaulted ceilings. It is the perfect space to relax and unwind. When requested for an additional fee, children items are available (hatch sound machine, pack and play, , bed bumpers, baby bath support and or high chair. This location is close the to Indiana National Lakeshore(17 minutes), downtown Valparaiso(7 minutes), and right next to Long Lake.

Private Cottage in Gated Nudist Community

We offer a private cottage on the grounds of Lake O the Woods Club. Cottage has Queen size bed, air conditioning, heater, refrigerator, microwave, TV, coffee maker, work/dining area, private deck and porta-potty. Payment of club daily grounds fee ($30-$60) is optional . Pricing on club website. There is no running water in the cottage. Bathrooms, showers, hot tub, sauna and swimming pool are available at the clubhouse and pool area after payment of grounds fees.

Close to the Dunes State Park!

Indiana Dunes State Park with its beautiful beach is only an 8 mile drive. Other beaches close by are Porter beach, Kemil and Portage Riverwalk. Jump on the train and head to Chicago for the day, or its only an hour drive. There are miles of trails near by for walking or biking. Downtown Chesterton has its weekly European Market on Saturday morning, a great place to but fresh veggies and pastries. There are numerous great restaurants in the area.

Flint Lake Cottage.

This is a rustic cottage with old world charm. There are 2 fireplaces,. The home sits on a hill overlooking the channel that leads to Flint Lake. - Pet free -May not be appropriate for people with mobility issues. - Earth friendly cleaning products - Private beach & park access - Easy access to city center & university - One hour from downtown Chicago - National Lakeshore and Dunes State Park nearby - Wood fireplaces (winter only!)
