As salinas foram um dos principais motores do desenvolvimento de Aveiro, sendo mesmo a primeira referência histórica de Aveiro em 959 referindo-se como ´´terras in Alavario et salinas´´. É possível ainda hoje apreciar o trabalho nas salinas feito pelos marnotos. O método pouco mudou em séculos, continua a ser 100% natural, sem recurso de máquinas sendo o resultado um sal muito branco e puro.
