Talbot Forest offer the chance to walk through native bush with an intoxicating soundtrack of bellbirds and warblers while you're followed along the paths by curious fantails and tomtits. If you're after something a little creepier, take a torch and venture into the bush after dark to see an amazing array of spiders, moths, weta and who knows, maybe a bat or two.

Both locations have amazing large old native trees - Totara, Matai and kahikatea and lots of native birds
