The GNO Orchestra was founded in 1939 together with the opera company, then a department of the Royal Theatre. It covers the breadth of the lyrical repertory.

Home to the Greek National Opera. The foundation has struggled financially in the past few years, despite a few promising productions. Hopefully the situation will improve once the new premises constructed by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation are operational in late 2016.
